October is a month many people throughout the country look forward to each year. It gets cooler, the leaves are changing, and the Pumpkin Spice Latte is back at Starbucks for the season. There are the obvious reasons why October is the best month, but there are many holidays and celebrations unknown to most, so I have compiled a list of ten reasons why October better than every other month.

1. National Pizza Month

If you are like me, you love pizza. It is delicious, cheap, and can be delivered directly to your house so you don't have to dress like a normal member of society to go get it! I am proud to live in a country where pizza has an entire month dedicated to its awesomeness.

2. Adopt a Shelter Dog Month

Dogs are cool, but getting a shelter dog is even cooler. You get a dog and a lot of the times, you are saving a life. You don't have to pay $1,000,000 for a pet when you can get one for about $30 from your local shelter!

3. Leif Erikson Day- Oct. 9th

Leif Erikson was a Norse man and explorer who led the Europeans safely to North America and it is believed that he was the first to discover the continent, not Christopher Columbus. So, as the great philosopher of our time said, "Hey everybody! It's Leif Erikson Day! Hinga, Dinga, Durgen." -Spongebob Squarepants

4. Frappe Day- Oct. 4th

If you have coffee as much as I do, you have probably had a frappe at some point. Frappes are a good way to get your caffeine for the day while staying cool. They are delicious year round, but especially in the summer.

5. Hermit Day- Oct. 29th

I am a pretty introverted person. When I have had a lot of human contact for the day, especially something like work or teaching where I had to be extremely cheery, I get exhausted. I need to chill out at home by myself to be ready for what life throws at me next. On Hermit Day, you are supposed to spend in seclusion. It's one of my favorite on the list!

6. Cookie Month

There are so many kinds of cookies that you could make a new type every day of the month and still not scratch the surface. Cookies are an awesome dessert and most people enjoy eating them, so they are good for parties or large events.

7. Dessert Day- Oct. 14th

Speaking of dessert, October 14th is Dessert Day! Get your ovens and baking pans ready because there are so many to choose from! Cheesecakes, cookies, pies, tarts, and cupcakes are only some of your options!

8. Fall and Fall Break

For many students, fall break happens in October. Schools out, there is a chill in the air, and you can do whatever you want (within reason). It's a good time for bonfires, football, and general outdoor activities!

9. Breast Cancer Awareness Month

I don't think there are many people that don't know October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. There are fundraisers, news articles, and NFL teams change many of their clothing to pink or have pink accessories to show support. It is an important disease and making October Breast Cancer Awareness Month has probably saved thousands of lives.

10. Halloween- Oct. 31st

Did you think I forgot? Halloween is the pinnacle of October and for many, Haloween is their favorite holiday. Trick or treating, dressing up, and the parties are what make up the holiday and what makes it so spectacular. The entire country says "I am going to dress as whatever I want today and it will be accepted because it is October 31st."

Now that Halloween is over, it's time to focus on the Holiday Season. Don't get me wrong, I think Thanksgiving is great and can't wait for it, but nothing gives me greater joy than watching Freeform's 25 Days of Christmas, lighting peppermint scented candles, decking the halls, and baking gingerbread cookies. So while we approach the greatest time of the year, let's watch the 15 best Christmas movies of all time.

6 Signs You Are An English Major

There are various stereotypes about college students, most of which revolve around the concept of your major. Unfortunately, we often let stereotypes precede our own judgments, and we take what information is immediately available to us rather than forming our own opinions after considerable reflection. If I got a dollar for every time my friends have made a joke about my major I could pay my tuition. One stereotype on campus is the sensitive, overly critical and rigid English major. Here are six telltale signs you are one of them.

"The Office" is a mockumentary based on everyday office life featuring love triangles, silly pranks and everything in between. It can get pretty crazy for just an average day at the office.

When you were little, your parents probably told you television makes your brain rot so you wouldn't watch it for twelve straight hours. However, I feel we can learn some pretty valuable stuff from television shows. "The Office," while a comedy, has some pretty teachable moments thrown in there. You may not know how to react in a situation where a co-worker does something crazy (like put your office supplies in jello) but thanks to "The Office," now you'll have an idea how to behave ifsomething like that should happen.

Here are just a few of the things that religious Office watchers can expect to learn.
