10 Reasons Why My Mom Is The Best
Jenni Stephenson

Throughout our years together, my mom and I have formed a close bond. I have learned a lot from her already, and I'm continuously learning through the examples she gives for me and my life. There are many reasons why I could say she's the best, but instead, here are the top ten reasons.

1. She's hard working.

Whether that's cleaning around the house, doing yard work, or offering to help others, there is always something to keep her busy and productive.

2. She somehow made sure she was always close by.

She often found a way to work at the same place I went to school, or similar. Including daycare, which started before I was in kindergarten, she has spent over nine years with me through her jobs. (I made note not to follow me to high school.) (Although it sure was helpful when I needed money.)

3. She's practically my own personal chauffeur.

Even if she didn't want to be. Sorry, mom.

4. She puts up with my busyness.

I could be sick and yet still find a way to be busy and out of the house. Sometimes my daily schedule can equate to having two or three children, and she's able to handle it. That in itself is amazing.

5. She's always someone I can rant or vent to.

You bet I'm telling her about that one time with that one thing that made me super frustrated.

6. She has time to listen to me go off on tangents while I'm ranting or venting.

Because I'm usually never able to talk about one specific thing without something else coming to mind that I also need to mention.

7. She's supportive.

From watching plays and musicals that I had little parts for in middle school, to making the drive to Lincoln to come see me play in CMB, she has never failed to show her support in what I do.

8. She's my reason for loving cats so much.

If we hadn't spontaneously gotten a kitten when I was in elementary school, I don't know where I would be right now when it comes to cats.

9. She's also a big reason why I want to be a teacher.

Growing up in classroom settings with her working in the same building has it's perks.

10. She never fails to show her love in whatever she does.

She works with a purpose, she does what she loves, and she always has a smile on her face that radiates with positivity. I only hope to be like that as well.

There are many things that show what a fantastic mother she is, and I'm glad she's a great role model for me. I know I don't say it enough, but I'm very appreciative of all that she has done, not just for me, but for everyone she impacts as well. I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for her.

Happy Mother's Day, mom! Love you!

10 Things Only Equestrians Understand

Yes, it IS a sport. Yes, I fall all the time. No, I do not ride in jeans with a cowgirl hat on.

Growing up I have always wanted to own a horse. My grandparents own a well known equestrian facility in Georgia, so I have been riding since I was born. A bond between a person and their horse is a bond so strong that it cannot be broken. Everywhere I went I wanted to be around horses, even forcing my family to go on trail rides during vacations. Horses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember has taught me great responsibility, as well as 14 things that all equestrians can relate to.

College is super hard. Between working, studying, and having a social life, it feels like a struggle to just keep afloat.

I understand. When you feel like your drowning and there's no way to stay afloat I understand that it feels like everyone else is doing just fine. I understand all the frustration, long nights in the library, and that feeling that you want to just throw in the towel. I understand that sometimes it's too hard to get out of bed because your brain is already filled with too much information to remember. I understand because I am also feeling pretty burnt out.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

Sometimes my brain just starts turning on an idea and it doesn't want to stop.

I don't know if it is related to my anxiety, perfectionism or depression. I don't know why it happens. It's frustrating, it's painful and it stops me from functioning.
