8 Reasons Why Milwaukee Will Always Have my Heart

Being a student at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and living in the city for the past two years, I've really gotten close with the beauty of Milwaukee. Yes, it can be dangerous, obnoxiously loud or crowded sometimes, but I have to say this city has grown on me.

1. There is an endless amount of beautiful sight seeing

Come any season, there are hundreds of places to go that can make for a pretty picture or just give you some piece of mind. Any city is easy to get caught up in the craziness, but Milwaukee is literally overflowing in art for our eyes. Our city ranges from old antique buildings, new awesome architecture and of course nature at it's finest.

2. Lake Michigan

The lake is always a beauty to see in winter, but summer is when the beach really comes alive. Even if you may not like the cold rocky water, it never hurts to lay and tan, listen to the waves or play beach volleyball. You can't get those three things anywhere else close to here. Plus if you're a student it's only a couple miles down the road from campus!

3. Downtown love

Downtown Milwaukee is awesome any time of the year because there is an abundance of restaurants, shops and a ton of entertainment; not to mention they all come together to make a beautiful arrangement of unique buildings. You can pretty much walk anywhere downtown because almost everything is within reach. It's always a fun place to go out, walk around or just enjoy the city by yourself.

4. Art and history

You might think 'yuck and boring,' but all of Milwaukee's educational buildings, such as museums, are actually really interesting and amazing. The Public Museum, Discovery world, Art Museum, the list never ends. Any boring day you have is perfect to go look around at some art or history, take some pics and have a fun day with your friends. Personally the art museum is my favorite. P.S. every first Friday of the month is free to students. You're welcome!

5. Games/Sports

Not only do we have the Brewers, but we've also got the Bucks, the UWM Panthers, the Milwaukee Wave and the Admirals! Whichever team you prefer, Milwaukee is screaming with sports teams for all of us tailgating fanatics!

6. Festing

You should know what that means. Yes, we host one of the largest music festivals in the world! Usually Summerfest hosts pretty good acts, so if you haven't been there you're truly missing out. This is one of the best parts of summer in Milwaukee for sure!

7. Our Food is bomb

There are so many pizza joints, burger/grill options and upscale restaurants. If you haven't already, try Ian's pizza, AJ Bombers or Carnivore. Heck, just walk down any street a couple blocks and I'm sure you'll find something since restaurants are literally everywhere around here.

8. Hiking/staying active

This might be hard to do in winter, but during any other season there are many choices of parks, beach walks and trails to go on a hike or take your daily run. The good news is not many people do this at the same time either, so you can actually get the privacy you need while you go on a relaxing walk. When do you ever get that in a busy city?!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
