October, November, December, and January are all the best months of the year to me. Sure I love my birth month in spring but nothing compares to the wonderful time of fall and winter. With fall there are the colors and the beginning of cooler weather. Keep in mind I am talking about Louisiana where it is still anywhere between 80 and 95 when the sun is shining and it is October. I love winter when the trees are bare and the time screams Christmas.

1. Halloween

I love this holiday. It is full of fun and spooky decorations. As kids me, my brother, and mom go to my aunt’s house to trick or treat every year. We would dress up with my cousin and go to every house in the neighborhood. We would have tons of candy and we always had the best time. I loved getting dressed up and be someone else for the night, like a princess, or a genie, or have on a mask. It is very special time because it holds so much great memories.

2. Thanksgiving

This holiday is great because of the reminder that we need to be thankful for what we have, like our crazy family or friends. The food doesn’t hurt this holiday at all. With all of that food we are sure to be full till Christmas.

3. Christmas

This is my favorite holiday of all. I love the spirit of the holiday. While it is stressful I love the feeling of giving to others and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. I love being with my family on the days leading up to Christmas day with eggnog with my grandmother on the day before Christmas eve, and Fireworks with my Aunt and Uncle on Christmas eve. I love Christmas day where I spend time with my mom, brother, and sister, and sometimes my grandmother. I love seeing the look on my little sisters face as she sees what Santa has brought. My brother seeing he got something he wished for but didn’t expect. I love the decorations, all of the lights and the lawn ornaments. It is truly a magical time of year.

4. New Year's Eve

New Year eve is always as fun day. We normally pop fireworks when 12 comes around and drink champagne to bring in the New Year. We reminisce the year gone by and hope for a good year in the new one.

5. Fall

After the scorching heat of summer it is nice to feel the cool breeze of fall. I love watching as the leaves change colors and fall to the earth. I love seeing all of the pumpkins that children and adults have carved or painted. Another thing that is great is that all of the television shows I love comes back.

6. Winter

Winter is great with the chill of the breeze. I love it when Louisiana has those years when it snows. It makes everything look like a winter wonderland. It looks magical almost like anything can happen in the stunning white of the fresh fallen flakes.

7. Bonfires

With the colder weather it is always nice to light a small campfire to sit around to keep you warm. To tell stories around and roast marshmallows or hot dogs and drink a beer or several or maybe whiskey to keep you warm. It is always fun to have a good fire with great friends and family.

8. Shopping

I love to shop and this is the time of year that you can. Mostly because you have to go Christmas shopping. All of the deals that they have are incredible.

9. Not As Many Bugs

I hate bugs and even though I know they aren't all gone, most are. Bugs like bees and wasps and most mosquitoes and gnats and those annoying little clear bugs that swarm around light have all retreated to the fiery pits of hell they escaped from in the first place.

10. Cute Clothes

Is it just me or someone else? Clothes look better in the colder months. Maybe it is the layers that I like so much. The scarves, coats, and boots and the sweaters and accessories that go with all of it. It is truly the best time of the year to me. Is it yours?

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
