Rhode Island is the smallest state with the biggest name. But what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in quality. As summer is halfway over, we can't help but dread the end, and appreciate the limited days we have left in the place we love. Here are some reasons I love summers in RI:
1. Del's Lemonade
While it's the typical RI drink, it completes any hot summer day with the perfect amount of refreshing lemony heaven.
2. The Beach
Whether you're napping, reading, tanning, walking, or swimming; nothing beats the beaches.
3. Ice Cream
All day, every day. This state may have the most ice cream places from the generic Ben and Jerry's and Newport Creamery to local staples including Brickley's, St. Clair's Annex, and Buttonwoods; there's always a reason (and a place) to scream for ice cream.
And the sunflowers give the ice cream an incredible view.
4. Sunsets
With clear skies and overlooks to watch the sunset; nothing beats watching the sun fade into orange as it hides behind the water after a long day.
5. Shopping
Especially on those rainy days, there's always a bargain in various downtown areas. A possible day trip to Newport, or a stop at the Umbrella Factory to brighten your day.
6. Local Eats
From Iggy's Doughboys to Federal Hill; our state offers many local staples.
7. Seafood
Even if you're not the biggest seafood person, nothing beats fresh fish or quahogs on a summer night.
8. Historic Landmarks
War forts from WWII cover the coastline, and if you can't appreciate the incredible strength of these structures lasting all this time, the modern graffiti will surely impress.
9. Lighthouses
All the way to Block Island, these buildings are staples after all we are the ocean state.
10. Scenic Roads
While you may be dodging potholes left and right, there's a good chance you'll enjoy the view while doing it.
These reasons are just a taste of what Rhode Island has to offer and show exactly why I love summers in the smallest state.
