10 Reasons Why I Love My Dad

1. He rarely tells me no.

I'll be honest. I have this man whipped. He gets me whatever I want whenever I want. To be honest with you, he created this monster himself when he didn't let me leave the mall empty handed when I was younger.

2. He gives the best hugs ever.

Y'all, the best hugs of my life were given to me by this man. He's very warm and I can feel the love that he has for me.

3. He is the best person to roast other people with.

I know, that isn't something that we're supposed to do, but he's just so doggone funny. It's one of the many reasons why we aren't allowed to sit next to each other during important events, especially funerals.

4. His cakes are amazing.

Every time he bakes, I understand why my mom married this man and has stayed in love with him for almost 20 years. For my birthday, I always opt out of store-bought cakes for one of his pound cakes. They are simply amazing.

5. He's always willing to support me no matter what.

Eight years ago, I asked to be taken out of dance and to be put into Tae Kwon Do. He did a little bit of research and found a Tae Kwon Do school less than five minutes away from our house. The rest is history.

6. He is very hands on.

Remember that Tae Kwon Do that I told you about? He decided to join with me when he found out that there was an adult portion. Ever since then our bond has grown even stronger.

7. He has shown me what my expectations should be from my husband.

My mom and dad are relationship goals. I love the love that he has for my mom and I love the love that my mom has for him. They were both made for each other. He leads and she follows. He makes sure that she feels protected and loved at all times.

8. He made me a football fan.

My dad used to let me believe that I used to break ankles when I played Madden at 4 or 5 years old. To this very day, we yell at the game together whenever we get the chance.

9. He introduced me to Marvel, DC, and "Star Wars."

He is very much so to blame for my Loki, Luke Cage, Bucky, Joker, and Anakin Skywalker obsession.

10. I will forever be his baby girl.

He tells me that even when I get married and give him and my mom some grandkids, he will still call me his baby girl. That is so important because it further confirms that he will be there to take care of me continuously and love me unconditionally.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
