10 Reasons Why Little Cousins Make the Best Friends

Well, for starters, being Hispanic comes with having a huge family. When I say huge, I mean HUGE. Anytime you go out into town, you somehow always run into a relative. Through the years, however, there are some you grow closer to than others. My favorite cousins, just happen to be my age and I couldn't have been more blessed.

Being the youngest child and having a brother who was 13 years older than you is tough. Especially when it comes down to, well, who am I going to play with? Who's going to be my friend? Do I have to go to Odessa with my parents? I want to ride my bike but I don't want to alone. But, have no fear, for the little cousins are here.

Growing up so close in age helped me out tremendously, because let's face it, we got on each other's nerves, but would never do anything about it because we loved each other. Life has definitely taken people out of my life, but in the end, I grew closer to my family. I am so thankful to have been blessed with both of you, and I cannot wait to see where life takes you. So here's 10 reasons why little cousins are the best.

1. You always have someone to talk to.

Let's face it there are some things you just can't tell you parents.

2. I mean, who else are you going to sit with at Christmas?

Being forced to sit at the kids table all those years paid off.

3. When you need to make a last-minute trip, they are willing to go with you.

Who doesn't love a good reason to get of town for a few hours?

4. If you need a reason to come back home, they are #1.

Soon I will be heading off to college, and y'all will be starting your senior year. Of course I have to catch a couple of games and pep rallies.

5. They will always give you an honest opinion.

If you don't look good in some clothing or in a photo, they will be the first to let you know.

6. You can be so mean to each other, but you still love them.

Lord knows how many times we have yelled at each other, but I know you still love me and I love you.

7. You know the saying "Who's got my back?" They for sure have your back.

No matter what choices you make, they will have your back regardless.

8. Sports event coming up? They'll be your biggest supporter.

At every football game, swim meet, pep rally or softball game, they'll be there.

9. In need of a favor, most of the time they'll help you.

Whether it's homework or just a quick favor you need, they usually will come to help.

10. They are never going to judge you.

Even if you make some pretty bad choices, they'll say "I told you so." Then continue on with life and never look back at the situation.

Thank you for the late night talks, the car rides, cheering on the sidelines together, watching Devon play football, going dancing (*cough* New Years) -- all of it. Most of all, thank you for never judging me for the mistakes I have made and for always being willing to be my shoulder to cry on.

As I begin my journey to college, I will always keep you two in mind. After all, you are my future Maid of Honor and the cousin my future husband will someday love.

Cousins by blood, friends by choice.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
