Lefties are the people that make sure the world is not always right. They are the left-out. In great demand, but limited supply. In honor of all the southpaws across the globe here are 10 reasons it's great to be left-handed.

1. Advantage playing baseball

When pitching in baseball a left does not have to turn all the way around to throw to first base. Left-handed batters also provide a change to a pitchers usual practice in pitch location, also giving them an advantage.

2. Advantage playing video games

The main analog stick on almost all entertainment systems is located on the left side of the controller. This allows for players to have more control than right handed players.

3. Eating dinner

When eating with a fork and knife righties have to switch hands after cutting in order to eat with the fork. Left handed people naturally have the fork already in their left hand.

4. It's a fighting advantage

Studies have shown that in a fight left-handed people are more successful because it is harder for right-handed people to expect the left-hook.

5. It translates to being a great musician

Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney, Kirt Cobain and Tony Iommi are some of the greatest guitar players of all time. They are also all left handed.

6. They are better drivers

57 percent of left-handed drives pass the driving test on the first try, only 47 percent of right-handed people pass.

7. By theory, they are better multitaskers

Being left handed scientifically forces the brain to act faster. Therefore when trying to do two separate things, they are more efficient.

8. Lefties can type and use a mouse simultaneously

Speaking of multitasking, bet you didn't think about this one. Yes, computer mouses are on the right, so naturally a left-handed person can type effectively and move a mouse.

9. They spend less time waiting

How is this possible? Because when faced with a line righties tend to go right and lefties go left, therefore there are always less people on the lines to the left.

10. They stand out from the rest

Being left-handed is a secret gift. Only 10 percent of the population is left-handed. All the complaints about the shape of desks and ink on their hands doesn't matter when science shows lefties live longer!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
