1. I love to help others.
I believe that helping others is what we were all put on this earth to do. We are to be the hands and feet. There are countless careers that consist of helping others, so it all comes down to which one your heart beats for. Mine happens to beat for education.
2. Teachers are more than teachers.
Being a teacher isn't all about compound sentences, math problems, or standardized tests. To meet their students' needs throughout the school year, teachers have to play many roles. Teachers are mentors, nurses, counselors, best friends, and sadly, even moms and dads at times. Great teachers have so much compassion in their hearts that they will do anything to make sure their students are taken care of.
3. It isn't all about the money.
I can't count how many times people have looked down on me for majoring in Education. They tell me that I'll never get paid enough, and to run while I still have time. I'm not going anywhere (much less, running)- I'm so proud to be an Education major; a few looks or comments will never change my mind.
4. It's a challenging career.
One of the biggest misconceptions is that majoring in Education is easy. I have even heard it referred to as a back-up plan. Owch, right? If only everyone could sit in my classes for just one week, they would notice that it's not as easy as it's made out to be. I'm only a college student... Being a teacher is even more challenging. Looking from the outside, people will never understand how much truly goes on in the classroom.
5. Teacher's don't get enough credit, but they give it their all anyways.
This is what has always stood out to me the most about teachers. They are very aware that they are not appreciated enough, but that doesn't stop them from giving their all to their students each and every day.
6. Teachers are the foundation of all other careers.
Our world is filled with many awesome and life changing careers. Without teachers, though, how would we have our doctors, our dentists, or anything for that matter? You couldn't graduate from high school if it weren't for teachers. You couldn't get your degree if it weren't for teachers. Teachers prepare us for these careers, and believe in us to be successful throughout them.
7.My teachers have changed my life.
I have been blessed with outstanding teachers throughout the years, but we all have our favorite, right? I met my favorite teacher in 8th grade. Mrs. A is the type of lady that once you meet her, you'll never be the same. She was the best teacher to my class and I, but she is an even better individual. She believed in me more than any teacher ever had, and any of my peers would tell you the same. She cared about our schooling, of course, but what stood out to me most is that she cared about our lives too. She pulled me aside when she knew something was wrong, and she didn't let me leave until she knew I felt better. I can't go into detail about how much Mrs. A means to me, because that would be hundreds of pages long, but I can say that she impacted and still impacts so many people each day. She is the strongest woman I know and I am so thankful to have had her as my teacher, and now as my friend. I hope you have all found your Mrs. A, and that you always hold them close to your heart and remember the difference that they made in your lives.
