People always tell you that the friends you meet in college will be your friends for life. While this may be true, it's hard to imagine life without your hometown friends. College is great, but nothing beats coming home and reuniting with the friends that you've known since you were less than five-years-old. Here are 10 reasons why your hometown friends just can't be beat:

1. You don’t have to explain how awkward you were in middle school to them because they were there being their awkward selves right there with you

Luckily, that means that they grow up with you too. Thank you, puberty.

2. No one else understands how boring your town is past 10pm on every given night

The struggle gets real when the only place that’s open 24/7 within a 15-mile radius is Dunkin Donuts. But when it's the holidays and you already ate double your weight in cookies, you settle for late night drives instead.

3. You’ll never really stray from each other because your parents are all friends

Since you’ve known each other since the pre-school years, your parents all became close too. Because of this, you always end up seeing the same three friends every New Year’s Eve. Queue the tri-family selfie!

4. You have gotten so comfortable with their families over the years, you feel comfortable going to your friend’s house when they aren’t home just to hang out with their family members…including the dog

5. Since you’re so comfortable with their families, you even get invited to their sibling’s weddings

Nothing is more fun than an open bar and a night of dancing with your childhood BFF

6. They will go to a concert with you even though you asked them the day of …even if they aren’t really sure who they're going to see

Your college BFF who lives 6 hours away won't be able to come to your rescue when you have last minute concert plans *thanks Erin*

7. They know your love life like the back of their hand, even if it takes them a minute to match the memory with the person

"Wait, was this the guy who had a lisp or the one who lives down the shore? Neither? Oh! The one with the really cute dog, got it."

8. You have people to Party* with

When a band you discovered while at a concert for another band is traveling around doing house parties for their fans, of course you want to get in on that action. Queue the group chat telling everyone to come jam out and party with you.

*the band was called Crash the Party but are not longer together which is sad because they were incredibly talented

9. You always have people to reminisce with about "the good old days"

Whether it's that dumb thing you did in fifth grade or how ridiculous your prom weekend was, no one else will laugh as hard as you at those stories than the people who lived through the ridiculous thing with you.

10. They are always there for you

Whether your boyfriend that they never met broke up with you, you failed your calculus final and need to retake the class, or you're just feeling homesick, they are always one call/text/Snapchat away from making you laugh and feel 100% better.

No matter what, you always end up coming back to at least one or two of your home town friends when you’re home on break. Luckily for me, I have a full group of friends to come back to. College friends are great, but no one really quite understands your life more than the people who have been there since the beginning.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
