10 Reasons Hofstra Students Miss Mchebes

1. We no longer get to hear Rob Vee say "I'm at Mchebes it's a typical Friday night" (sing to the tune of "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift)

While yes we still get to listen to our favorite happy hour hits at Bangers, we will always miss how "Mchebes" just so easily fit into song lyrics.

2. There is nothing like Mchebes atmosphere to put you in the mood for Happy Hour.

While we do get to still enjoy our $5 pitchers at Bangers, happy hour will just never truly feel the same.

3. Bank of America is right next door to Mchebes.

It was always very convenient to casually stop at the ATM before getting online.

4. Oktoberfest and St. Patricks Day.

Pretty self explanatory if you ask me.

5. "She's gunna shake her ass on the bar of Mchebes"

Yet another song twist, but let's be honest girls dancing on the bar tops of Mchebes was a very common occurrence, not so much at Bangers.

6. The national anthem and the American flag being waved

Nothing shows patriotism like a bunch of drunk college kids holding their $5 pitchers up and join in singing the national anthem. Also holding the flag was another excuse to have girls on the bar.

7. The green fence.

Everyone has at least one picture in front of the green fence in the outside area. If that wasn't your favorite photo op spot then you always had inside in front of the fake celebrity pics.

8. Beer pong tables and a grill.

Not a common occurence, but just something to make some special events and holidays a little more special.

9. The different promotions they would run and the promo pictures to go with them.

#GIRLSBELIKE Thursdays, Fireball Fridays (after happy hour of course) and Smoke Show Saturdays...

10. Variety.

While there are a million reasons we all miss Mchebes, one thing we really miss about the Hofstra strip in general is our variety of bars to choose from. Now we are stuck with only one bar and the fond memories we have made at our favorite fallen bar.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
