I'm that girl that has a lot of guy friends. For years, I totally relied on them as my confidantes and supporters. There's one hard thing about having guy friends though: eventually, someone will replace you. It's a harsh reality. But someday, they are going to meet a beautiful, funny, amazing, incredible woman who will take their breath away and you will no longer be their number one girl (space) friend. It doesn't matter that you never wanted to date them, it's still hard at times. It's taken me almost 21 years, but I finally appreciate the beauty of female friendship.
Yes, girls can be catty sometimes. Yes, girls can be full of drama. But as someone who has been best friends with both sexes, I have finally discovered the immense treasure a female best friend is. Here are 10 reasons why your female best friend can never be replaced by a guy:
1. They'll always have your back, they are your "person.".
Christina and Meredith had this on lock down. Be like Christina and Meredith.
2. They understand what it's like to be a woman.
Because let's be honest, life is hard sometimes. And really, boys just don't understand. They try, but....
3. There are just some things you want to talk about that would just scare your guy friends.
Like tampons, periods, baby names, feminism....;)
4. They're not afraid to call you out on your issues.
And let's be honest, you've got a lot of them.
5. They are there for you when you go through bad break ups and become completely irrational.
To which your answer, (of course) is:
Of course you do.
6. You can communicate without anyone ever knowing. You might not even know it.
But the blank faces on everyone else says that you do.
7. They'll laugh at all of your jokes, they know better than to not.
Besides, you're freaking hilarious anyways.
8. They'll work hard on your friendship, because they know how rare true, genuine, female friendships are.
Really, girls can be very mean sometimes.
9. Best friends, even when they find their "one," will always need you.
Because nothing can replace same gender friendships.
10. In the end, let's just be real, the saying is true:
Yeah...that one.
