The "Harry Potter" series is heralded for the many strong and respectable female characters JK Rowling has created. From Hermione to Luna to Lily to Molly, even Narcissa, girls were given the opportunity to watch as new role models unfolded on the pages and screens around the globe.
That being said, Ginny Weasley is the most under-appreciated female character in the series because 1. her character was horribly remodeled in the movies and 2. most people forget about her when compared to Hermione. I'm here to tell you Ginny is the best, and my favorite female character in any book. Period. Here's why:
1. She manages an entire school year alone while being possessed by Voldemort.
As an 11-year-old, Ginny was possessed by Voldemort and didn't share her feelings or worries or strife with anyone. She was 11! And then we find out it was actually a Horcrux, making it even more amazing, she stayed practically sane! But no one seems to give her credit for surviving such a terrible year...
2. She came up with the name "Dumbledore's Army."
Because she knew that's what the ministry feared the most and she's a savage.
3. "...he knew that at that moment they understood each other perfectly, and that when he told her what he was going to do now, she would not say 'Be Careful,' or 'Don't do it,' but accept his decision, because she would not have expected anything less of him."
This. Just the fact that Ginny has just been broken up with, but she knows she waited years already and she can wait more. She knows she can't stop him, and he's about to do something crazy, but she trusts him. I love her for this.
4. "Yeah, size is no guarantee of power," said George. "Look at Ginny."
Best Bat Bogie Hex in Hogwarts.
5. Ginny would steal her brothers' brooms and practice Quidditch during the summer at night.
And went on to be a professional player like the badass she is.
6. "The thing about growing up with Fred and George is that you sort of start thinking anything's possible if you've got enough nerve."
One of the most inspirational quotes of the book series. Just keep rereading it. It's essentially JK Rowling jumping out of the book and telling you to do that thing you've always wanted to do even if it is the craziest, most wild, dangerous thing in the world.
7. Ginny, Neville and Luna take over the D.A. when the Golden Trio leaves.
Not to mention they took beatings and detentions, and even the Cruciatis Curse, for the safety of the younger students.
8. Ginny was the Seeker for the Quidditch team when Harry got suspended, and won the House Cup with Ron.
No one ever seems to remember she was on the team, or that she was AMAZING.
9. She didn't wait around for the boy she loved. She moved on and let him realize what he was missing.
This. Is. So. Important. She loved Harry, but knew he wasn't interested, so she told herself to date other boys. She didn't pine after Harry. She didn't awkwardly tie his shoes or just stare at him lustfully. She was done waiting.
10. She told Romilda Vane that Ron had a tattoo of a Pygmy Puff.
Classic sibling award.
There's so many other reasons I love Ginny, but in the end, I hope more people can appreciate just what a phenomenal role model she is for young women and men.
