Galentine's Day, which takes place every year on February 13th, was made famous by Leslie Knope from "Parks and Recreation," and since then it has been gloriously celebrated by females worldwide. Or at least, it should be.
Unless you've been living in a cave your whole life, you probably know that Valentine's Day is coming up--and while it can be a special day for some, it's got absolutely nothing on Galentine's Day. Here's why.
1. You get to have brunch with all your girls. After all, breakfast food is one of the few things on this earth that might be better than friendship.
2. Who needs romantic gifts from your significant other when you can have thoughtful presents from your best friends?
3. There are few things more wonderful in the world than women loving and supporting other women.
4. Women everywhere must be prepared for the possibility of disappointment on Valentine's Day, whether they're in a relationship or not. On Galentine's Day, everyone just has fun! No need to lower your expectations when you're out with your girlfriends.
5. And any girl can celebrate Galentine's Day, regardless of relationship status. Nobody's stuck on their couch eating chocolate and binging "Gilmore Girls" on this holiday.
6. There's no other holiday devoted specifically to gathering your female friends and letting them know how much you care. And, well--that's an important thing.
7. It's not nearly as commercialized as Valentine's Day, so you can actually have fun on the holiday instead of getting sick of it before it gets here (thanks, Hallmark).
8. Who couldn't use a fun day out with the girls every now and then to relieve stress and take a break from all responsibilities? Go on. You deserve it.
9. It's the one day a year that no one will judge you for taking that second slice of cake, or ordering extra whipped cream on your waffles. Best friends don't judge.
10. You end the day on February 13th with the knowledge that, no matter how Valentine's Day goes, your girlfriends will always be around to support you.
Not to exaggerate or anything, but it should be fairly obvious to you by now that Galentine's Day is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best day of the year.
So put a hold on planning those Valentine's Day festivities and call up all your favorite girls, because days like this don't come often. As easy as it is to get swept up in the excitement of Valentine's Day, it doesn't even come close to comparing to the power of female camaraderie.
And, if any of your best friends are unable to make it on Feb. 13, you can always meet up on the 15th and raid the stores for leftover discount Valentine's chocolate together.
