Being from a big family can be crazy! Usually, when I am at home, I have a least one sister and sometimes a cousin in tow. Here are the top ten reasons why I love being from a big family.

1. My immediate family is very tight-knit

I am super close with my mom and sisters. When I come to visit, we rarely sleep because we are too busy catching up.

2. We can talk about anything

No subject of conversation is “off-limits” in my family. We never have to tiptoe around trying to be polite or politically correct.

3. I can always expect board games

Some families watch T.V. together. We play board games. It a great way to have fun and interact with each other.

4. I will always have the chance to see extended family when I am home

My hometown is full of cousins of all kinds- first, second and third. Being from a small town, it is almost guaranteed that I will see some of them.

5. Everybody lives nearby

Almost all of our neighbors are family- and the few that aren’t have been adopted into the family. They never mind if I drop by to say hello, and they are always welcome to drop by our house for a quick visit.

6. There is always somebody to help me with my car troubles

Let’s face it, I’m a poor college student and my car is old. A cousin or an uncle is always willing to trade working on my car for babysitting or baking cookies.

7. Somebody will get my car unstuck

Along the same thread as car troubles, a cousin or uncle will always come to my rescue when I get a car stuck in snow or sand or anything else. If there is not a cousin there to help right away, I just have to wait for one of them to drive past my house.

8. My sisters and I have a huge cheering squad

Whenever we are in a dance recital, race, or another program, many extended family members come and support us, and of course cheer loudly for us.

9. I will always have a place to call home

My family has lived in Driggs for many generations. There will always be a place for me to come back to.

10. I have family members in many towns, cities, and states

When it comes time for me to leave town to go back to school, I take comfort in the fact that that I have family members in most of the towns between here and there, in case of car troubles or bad weather.

Being from a big family in a small town has its ups and downs, but I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
