10 Reasons Why Fall Should Be Everyone's Favorite Season

With fall just around the corner, it’s hard for me not to get excited about it. While every season has something wonderful to contribute, there’s something about fall that makes it stand above the rest. Here are 10 reasons why fall should be your favorite time of the year:

1. It's BEAUTIFUL

Fall is the season of color, from the red and yellow hue of the leaves to the bright orange in the pumpkin patch. Taking a stroll with the crunch of falling leaves beneath your feet and the crisp air that greets you in the morning, it's hard not to fall in love with it's beauty.

2. Hayrides and Bonfires galore

Coming from a rural small town in Kentucky, hayrides were common and bonfires were a staple on a Saturday night. There’s just something about sitting around a campfire with friends that warms your soul.

3. Pumpkin and Apple flavored everything

Apparently in the fall, we Americans forget that any other flavors exist in this world besides Pumpkin or Apple. And you know what? I’m completely okay with that.

4. Coffee makes a comeback

I’m not saying we don’t drink coffee in the summer, but once it starts getting colder, we become passionate about our coffee. With the AMAZING flavors of coffee that appears in the fall, I personally can’t live without a salted caramel mocha. But, as previously mentioned, there’s always the oh-so-famous “pumpkin” spice latte or caramel “apple” cider.

5. Thanksgiving

For so many reasons, Thanksgiving is an awesome holiday. First of all, there’s literally so much food, and the leftovers are endless. Weight will be gained, learn to embrace it. Second, it’s an amazing opportunity to spend time with family and loved ones. Dust off the board games, and pull out the camera.

6. Black Friday Shopping

Now, this may not apply to everyone, but I personally LOVE Black Friday shopping. It’s the intense beginning of Christmas shopping, where people battle to the death over amazing sales and deals. Okay, to the death is a little extreme, but you get the point. Even if you aren’t a big fan of shopping, I encourage you to give it a chance; I swear you’ll be entertained.

7. You can bust out your sweaters and boots again

Seriously, there is nothing better in this world than fall fashion. Sweaters, cardigans, sweatshirts, long sleeves, jeans, boots, coats, hats, scarves, you name it. There are so many opportunities to mix and match and it makes you feel warm and cozy.

8. It's cold, but not too cold

Let’s be honest, I love winter but I hate the bitter cold. I hate opening a door and being blasted with air so cold that it makes me never want to leave my house. The best part about fall is that it’s cold, but not miserable. You know what I mean? I can actually enjoy long-sleeved weather without worrying if I will lose a toe to frostbite.

9. Fall Festivals

One of my fondest memories as a child was going to all the different fall festivals in our county. They were full of rides, games, and tons of amazing food that was probably very unhealthy, but who cares. (I’m talking about you Deep Fried Oreos…) From pageants to parades, Fall Festivals brought the community together, and was something I always looked forward to.

10. Halloween

Growing up, I always loved Halloween and still do. I love seeing all the jack-o-lanterns, skeletons, and other crazy decorations outside people’s homes. I enjoy seeing little kids dressed up in their cute outfits to go trick-or-treating and see their excitement at getting a bucket full of candy by the end of the night. However, my all-time favorite part of the Halloween season would be the old Disney Channel movies that get to make a comeback. Yes, I’m talking about Halloweentown… IT’S A CLASSIC.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
