10 Reasons Why Fall Is The Best Season

Summer fun has come to an end at last, which means it is time for the blossom of Autumn! Whether it be the excitement of cooler weather or the enjoyment of fall festivities, here are a few things that make me overjoyed that fall is quickly approaching!

1. The Weather Change

Summer heat, whether you suffer through dry heat or humidity, is finally over. Sweating season is over, and it's time to enjoy the cool breeze and the patter of soft spells of rain. The sun is bright, but doesn't beat down on your skin like it used to all summer long.

2. Vibrant Leaf Colors

Green turns to yellow, red, orange and brown. Trees in Autumn are simply magical. Forget the scientific reason as to why leaves change their colors during this time, just sit back and admire the pure beauty the fall colors look against the grayish-blue fall sky.

3. The Crisp Air

It's hard to describe the way the air seems to effect your senses. Your breathing is more clear, your eyesight seems to sharpen, and your sense of smell heightens. There's this distinct smell that shouts "FALL" when I breathe in the crisp-autumn air. It's definitely a drastic change to the thick air in summer.

4. Pumpkin Flavored Foods

Pumpkin is THE flavor of the season. Pumpkin spice lattes, pumpkin scones, pumpkin bread, pumpkin cookies, you name it. Pumpkin flavored foods or drinks always taste 10x better around this season. Add a pinch of cinnamon for a burst of autumn flavor.

5. Pumpkin Patches

When you were a kid, pumpkin patches were everything. It was the ultimate destination to find the perfect pumpkin your parents had to carve the night before halloween. Nothing's really changed now that we're grown-up. Of course we will go to a patch and pick that perfectly round, or perfectly long pumpkin and take it home. The only thing that has changed is carving designs ourselves.

6. Hay Rides

You can't experience the joys of autumn without going on a hay ride. Tractors trailing behind a wooden cart full of barrels of hay for pure joy of those visiting a pumpkin patch or a fall party. The smell of hay during this time makes me anticipate pumpkin picking.

7. Halloween

Kids seem to enjoy this holiday a lot, mainly for the candy, but who wouldn't? Decorating houses in creepy, haunted-house decorations, ready for kids to knock on the door yelling "Trick-Or-Treat!" Halloween is fun for all ages. Since we are older, passing out candy for the kids in our neighborhoods brings a sense of joy, seeing their eyes wide with excitement (but honestly probably because of a sugar high).

8. Sweater Weather

Coming back to the weather changing, sweater weather is finally present. Snuggling in a warm fleece sweater, or simply a hoodie brings such delight. Forget staying warm, comfort always comes first when picking out that perfect sweater and matching scarf.

9. Thanksgiving

Getting together with family that you haven't seen in weeks, months, years even is always an event to look forward to. Giving thanks for everything you have, makes you appreciative of the world you live in. Oh, and the food is always AMAZING.

10. Looking Forward To The End Of The Year

Fall season always gets me overjoyed for the end of the year, for many reasons. The weather continues to stay cold, snow will make an appearance, there will be a break from school, and Christmas peeks around the corner. What more can you ask for when it comes to this wonderful season we call Fall.

Enjoy the perks of the best season of the year!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
