Many study abroad students take advantage of the close proximity of countries in Europe, and travel all over during their semesters. A popular destination, especially in September, is Munich, Germany. I know you might think Oktoberfest is in October, but it is actually the last couple weekends of September! I went this previous weekend, and it was life-changing. Everyone should experience this amazing festival at some point in their lives and here is why:
1. Beer
The whole point of the celebration! Even if you aren’t the hugest fan of beer, you will enjoy the steins the waitresses bring you. It is delicious!
2. Lederhosen and Dirndl
It is really fun to see everyone dressed up in different outfits, especially with the dirndls. The boys look so cute and the girls are showing off beautiful and unique designs.
3. Giant Pretzels
They have giant pretzels. Need I say more?
4. Music
With German music blasting around you and everyone singing along to what they think the words are, it is impossible not have fun. They even play some American songs!
5. Carnival
Although a bit pricy, it feels just like a county fair when you walk outside of the beer tents. Rides and yummy food surround you.
6. New Friends
The tables inside of the tents are huge, so you usually end up sharing with strangers. With the combination of beer, music, and chanting, you will be fast friends in no time. It’s so exciting to meet people from all over the world!
7. Atmosphere
Honestly, Oktoberfest felt like Christmas considering how beautiful Germany is. I felt like a fairy in a little town.
8. Happiness
Everywhere I looked, I saw people smiling and having the best time. Good vibes were everywhere. How could you not be happy when you're holding a stein and singing with your best friends?
9. Munich
Even though you travel to Oktoberfest for the weekend, it would be quite tiring to spend the whole time at the festival. Explore Munich, try authentic German food, and see how one town can get so excited for one event.
10. Instagram
Last but not least, you are bound to capture a fire Instagram to post.
