For decades, Ellen Degeneres has been a trailblazer, not only in the entertainment world but also very prominently as an advocate for our generation. She has and continues to inspire every day whether it be through her words of wisdom, or actions of advocation for those around her. Whether it through the many gifts she's given through her show or words of wisdom on how to live freely in this generation, Ellen has never once asked for anything in return. She has proven time and time again that love and the ability to be true to who you are can defy all the odds that can get in the way. If I could aspire to be anyone, it would be her if only for the sheer reason of the attitude she has toward life, and her unapologetic attitude of being exactly who she wants to be without regret.
While I honestly think there is a countless number of reasons why that Ellen is the role model for this generation, here are the 10 biggest reasons that prove her to be a prominent role model for not only my generation but for our future generations as well.
1. She always stands up for what she believes in.
2. She advocates and speaks for those who feel they can't.
3. She uses her privilege to help and better those around her.
4. She shows that a kind and caring heart can defy and conquer the odds.
5. She isn't afraid to speak out when something is wrong.
6. She countlessly brings laughter and joy to people.
7. She reminds us that being different is more than acceptable.
8. She highlights the beauty that she finds in others.
9. She gives our generation an idea of what it is like to disagree with something without any hostility or anger.
10. She is completely unapologetic for being her true self.
All I have to say is thank you, Ellen. Thank you for being a person that, as a young adult, I can look up to. You prove time and time again, that a big heart and strong will can get you so much more out of life. Acts of love and kindness will always conquer the hate that people hold in their hearts, and I learned that from you. I only wish that through the years, I can be half of the person that you have made yourself to be.
