10 Reasons I Don’t Miss High School At All

1. Drama

Being in a school with the same people everyday creates gossip, it happens. In college you can choose not to be involved, unless you join a sorority!

2. Cliques

Fitting in is hard enough, let alone having to squeeze into a specific niche, and depending on your high school, your ‘type’ may not be very welcomed. In college, there are so many people, so many niches, and no need to change yourself to fit in.

3. Schedule

Making my own schedule in college was one of the best things ever. To choose to NOT wake up and go to class anytime before 9 a.m. was a gift of God.

4. Freedom

Living with your parents is fun and all, but we all look for that independence that comes with moving off to college. Especially as a high school senior, the anticipation could crush you. It will be worth the wait, but enjoy your home cooked meals while you can!

5. Stand for something

In high school there is not much of a difference most will make, sure you can join student government or a club, but many times they do not possess your own ideas. In college there is so much to live, fight and work for; politically, morally, and agriculturally and it feels amazing.

6. Purpose

Finding your purpose and meaning in life is one of the best feelings ever. It won’t happen locked up on in a classroom.

7. Fun

Sure you have high school sports, dances, and so on. But nothing beats college life, trust me.

8. Wearing what you want

You can wear any hat, skirt, or hairdo without being judged or given detention in college! Any color or length, and no matter how slutty. Pajamas around campus are not frowned upon, but more admired for bravery. You can do you, even in the classroom.

9. Eat when you want, where you want

Lunch time is not for the faint of heart in high school. Gossip boils, teachers gawk, and the food is rancid. In college, you can eat whenever, wherever, and most of the time the food is quality. And you don't have to give two craps about scarfing down three bowls of fruity pebbles because Betsy Bananas will not be there to judge you.

10. Finding yourself

I am a strong believer that young minds are not fully capable of truly finding themselves in high school, where so many ideas are forced upon you. College is where the magic happens.

Once you leave high school’s grasp you experience the real world, find who you really are and begin building the road to your future, and it feels amazing.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
