10 Reasons Why Dogs Are Better Friends Than People

I love my human friends as much as the next person. However, in my book, dogs play the role of a friend much better than any human friend ever could. As a proud owner of three dogs, I have to admit there are some qualities that these four-legged friends possess that humans tend to lack at times. Here are a few reasons why dogs make better friends than people:

1. They are always excited to see you.

Even if you're only gone for ten minutes, when you walk through the door, your dog will act as if it has been years. Without even realizing, these companions demonstrate the utmost appreciation for us in their natural reaction of wagging their tails and jumping up and down.

2. They are trustworthy.

Often times, it is hard to trust our human friends. There is always the chance for "he said, she said" drama to spark up. However, with a trustworthy pup, your secrets are entirely safe.

3. They are good listeners.

Personally speaking, interrupting is one of my pet peeves. When you really need to vent to someone, your best bet is to open up to a dog. They won't put in their two cents nor express any unwanted opinion like humans have the tendency to do.

4. They are protective.

Adopting a dog into your family is the equivalent to investing in the most efficient alarm system known to man. Whether it be a dangerous intruder or a harmless mailman, dogs will protect you from any potential threat.

5. They are world-class cuddlers.

You can't even argue with me on this one. Dogs are like real life stuffed animals that are always there when you need someone to cuddle up with.

6. They appreciate the little things.

At times, it can be difficult to please people. Something as small as deciding where to eat dinner can erupt into an argument. However, dogs enjoy the simple things in life. This makes them a thousand times more admirable than any human friend.

7. They are always up for an adventure.

If dogs had it their way, they would be by their owner's side at every second of the day. So they are always willing to embark on any adventure you have in mind.

8. But they also reassure you that it's okay to be lazy.

And on those days when all you have on your agenda is Netflix and chill, your dog will be the first to pop a squat next to you on the couch for a day of relaxing.

9. They are selfless.

As previously mentioned, dogs embody a certain happiness around you that is not always exuded by human friends. Our dogs want nothing more than our utmost happiness. This type of selflessness is not always acquired by humans, and it makes our dogs that much more lovable.

10. They are loyal.

If it were up to our dogs, they would serve as our companions for an eternity. They will always have our backs in any situation. Unlike human friends, they would never even think to pass judgment, even when we make the most horrible choices. Dogs are there through it all. I thank God everyday for granting us these wonderful companions. While it may not be obvious, these furry friends possess characteristics that make them the absolute best friends we could ask for.

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
