10 Reasons Dogs are the Greatest Animals in the World

Because dogs make the world a much better place

Anyone who knows me knows that I am obsessed with dogs. And when I say obsessed, I mean drop what I am doing and lay on the ground to love on any passing dog. Since the controversial law passed in Montreal banning the ownership of pitbulls, I have been overcome with confusion, because I don't understand how someone could pass an overarching ban separating gentle, good-natured dogs from their loving family just because of an unfounded stigma behind an entire breed. I love every single dog and think that there is no such thing as a bad dog, only a bad owner. Personally, I believe that dogs are the greatest animals in the world, and here are 10 reasons why.

1. They love you unconditionally

Dogs have an uncanny ability to love us through thick and thin, and they don't judge you if you choose to eat ice cream straight from the carton. If anything, they encourage the ice cream because it will mean that there is more of you to love.

2. They are our "fierce" protectors

While my dogs may greet any stranger with licking and snuggling, if I'm ever home alone all I need is a dog lying next to me to feel safe.

3. They make the best workout partners

There is no better motivation to get your butt off the couch than an irresistible pair of puppy dog eyes begging you to get up and get moving.

4. They have an uncanny ability to cheer you up

No matter what life may throw at you, dogs always seem to know exactly what you need to feel better. (Which is usually just a cuddle and a kiss.)

5. They make you feel very special

It doesn't matter whether you've been gone five days or five minutes, coming home to the genuine excitement of your furry best friend is a feeling that can't be beat.

6. Dogs make any activity enjoyable, no matter how small

Whether it is laundry that needs folding or a quick car ride to the store, dogs can make every chore fun (and adorable).

7. Dogs are good for your health

Not only are dogs good for helping calm anxiety and reduce stress, the American Heart Association even found that dogs can help protect against heart disease.

8. They are the best snugglers

After a long, exhausting day, there is nothing better than snuggling with a big fluffy ball of love.

9. They not only love you, they love every living thing

I mean, come on. How could you not love these perfect angels?

10. They are gentle giants

Dogs are the most loving and gentle creatures, only living for the love and approval of their owners. I truly believe that there is no such thing as a bad dog, only a bad owner, so if you want a wonderful dog all you have to do is love and praise your furry baby, and show them that they are another member of your family.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
