10 Reasons I Couldn't Live Without My Sister

We may not always like each other, but we never stop loving each other.

10 Reasons I Couldn't Live Without My Sister

1. She's always there

Whether I like it or not she is always there. And although sometimes I wouldn't mind a little bit of time to myself deep down I always want to be spending time with her too. So even when she wakes me up at 6 am because she is jet lagged and wants someone to hang out with, I get out of bed because I know she would do it for me in a heartbeat, as long as there is coffee involved.

2. She taught me everything I know

From tampons to heartbreak she taught me how to handle every hardship that came my way. And beyond that through her immense strength she showed me how to learn and grow from every obstacle. There will never be a problem too big or too small, she will always without fail coach me through every aspect of my life, and for that I am eternally grateful.

3. She knows me better than I know myself

I don't know how she does it but she knows if I am legitimately upset or if I just need a snack. If I need support or space. And most importantly she knows if I am doing something that I will ultimately be unhappy with. And beyond all of this she is never afraid to tell me when I am making a mistake or acting out of character in a way that will negatively impact my life.

4. She holds me accountable

As I mentioned above she knows when I am acting out of character. And although it can cause friction between us she has never hesitated to mention when I am doing something I really shouldn't be. She knows when I am being self destructive and calls me out on it immediately, because ultimately she has my best interest at heart (even when I can't see that in the moment).

5. She is my partner in every endeavor

We are practically professionals when it comes to Taboo, or any other board game that requires the ability to read the other's mind. Beyond that my enemies are hers and vis versa. No matter what the circumstance is if I have a problem with someone so will she, and while this blind hatred is somewhat childish we don't care because we both know the other wouldn't despise someone without some reason.

6. She challenges me

She wants for me what I aspire for myself. So whenever I lose sight of that, even for a moment, she is there to remind me of my goals. When I tell her I want something she immediately asks how I plan to get there, or offers any insight she has. She reminds me every day that my dreams can be a reality, but I need to be willing to work for them.

7. She always takes care of me

Whether it is making me tea for my sore throat, dowsing me in essential oils to cure my cold, or listening to me complain for hours on the phone she is always taking care of me. She will always find a way to make sure I am not just okay but happy no matter where she is. She's lived everywhere from the room next door to me, to across the country, to across the world but distance in no way inhibited her support.

8. She loves me even when she doesn't like me

I can't pretend we have a perfect relationship. Like any other siblings we fight, and beyond that we know each other so well that we know exactly how to bother the other. Safe to say we don't always like each other, but even when she can't stand to be in the same house as me I know that she loves me. And I know if it was really necessary she would put our differences aside in a heartbeat.

9. She inspires me

When we were younger I thought she was just extremely lucky. That was the only way I could fathom her success. I have learned with time that everything she has is a product of hard work and dedication. She would never settle for anything less than her dreams, and she is proof that with the right amount of work and perseverance anything is possible. Every day she gives me strength and hope.

10. She is my better half

Whenever something happens in my life she is the first person I want to tell. She is the person I trust the most in the world and for that reason I can't imagine a life without her. She drives me insane and she may be the loudest human being I have ever encountered, but she is what I cherish most.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way.
