The three months of summer vacation for college students truly is only good for two things: Saving up money and working off all of that beer weight. Students are excited to come home for a bit, but it’s coming to be about that time where we’re all just done with being home and ready to get back to the place that makes us the happiest because:
1. Freedom
The ability to come and go as you please isn't something everyone gets while they're at home. When you're at school you don't have to constantly check in with anyone or tell anyone where you're going, you just go no matter what time it is. Why? Because no one's going to tell you not to, or that you can't. Freedom is sweet.
2. Work Work Work Work Work
We're all trying to save money for when we do actually go back and that means one thing (cue Rhianna): work. You spend hours at a time at a job you most likely hate counting down the minutes until you can go home.
3. Your hometown is boring
Whats the point of being home if all you're going to do is lay in bed? There's no frat basement to party in and no one wants to spend all of their money at the bar.. so what do you do? Netflix. Lots and lots of Netflix. And then when all you do is watch Netflix you feel lazy, while when you're at school you're always on the move. I miss productivity.
4. Chores
Not only do you have to go back to listening to what your parents tell you, you actually have to do things around the house... and in a timely matter. You can't put off responsibilities until the very last second because you know your parents won't let it go until it's done.
5. "Sleepovers"
Sleeping under your parents roof means: yes, sadly, you have to sleep alone. Unlike when you're at school you can have your cuddle buddy over to fall asleep next to but at home I don't think your parents would like waking up to a half naked someone in their child's bed...
6. Lack of friends at home
When everyone parts ways to go to college you lose some along the way, so when you come home on breaks it might be hard to find plans. For some, you have friends to come home to and hangout with- others sometimes aren't that lucky and spend way too much time on the couch.
7. Siblings
You now have to go back to unwillingly sharing things with your siblings (car, shower time/bathroom, clothes etc.) and suddenly everything that was "yours" is shared amongst the people you live with, which is super inconvenient. On top of that, you're constantly arguing, it's what siblings do best.
8. You can be a slob
When you're at school you can have your room as messy as you want, because no one is there to tell you to clean it up. At home, your parents are constantly hounding you to pick your clothes up off of the floor and to recycle the countless empty water bottles in your room. At school our excuse can be that were just simply too busy to clean it, but at home your parents won't fall for that BS.
9. College friends
One of, if not the worst part about being away from school during the summer is not being able to see your friends from school. You go from spending every second of the day with the same group of people, to being states apart for three whole months. Other than taking trips to see each other, being home and away from your squad is way too difficult.
and most importantly....
10. You have to wear pants
Your parents/siblings aren't going to want to see all of that, forcing you to actually wear pants. Who ever wants to do that?
