Going home during break gives a sense of relief from finals and all of the tough papers you wrote. But after a while, you get tired of having to live under your parent’s rules. Plus, you start missing your 2nd home a little bit. Here are 10 reasons why college students are excited to return back to campus!

1. Finally reuniting with your friends

Of course, this was going to be #1. Seeing your college friends is basically a breath of fresh air. The endless sleepovers, parties, clubs, and eating together and being messy. My friends make my college experience 10 times better!

2. Eating your favorite foods again

I know students are always complaining about college food, but come on, what I REALLY mean are those late Domino’s and insomnia cookie nights, as well as Chick-Fil-A! Clearly, I don’t have these places in my hometown. I’m sure we’re all excited to go back to out favorite places to eat again. [Yes, I’ll still miss home cooked meals too.]

3. College sports games

Whether you go to the games or not, you’re always excited about all the hype and going to a rowdy event with your good friends. My friends and I just go because the audience makes it 10x better!

4. Endless Parties + Syllabus Week

What? You thought I was going to forget? I know as a college student that you’re looking forward to partying with your friends. And for those who don’t know what syllabus week is, it’s the first week of classes where you get little work and more free time to hang out with your friends. Don’t be surprised if you see people out and about on a Tuesday.

5. Being able to stay up late

Well, it’s mainly about freedom and not having to worry about being too loud when everyone in your family is sleeping. I was so loud one time that my mom texted me to be quiet.

6. Redecorating your dorm room

Because I basically took my room apart before leaving for break.

7. Your college town

Your hometown vs your college town makes a difference. Especially at night.

8. Clubs and Organizations

The clubs at my school are pretty lit. It’s like a party every week but we still get serious and we’re all about raising awareness. This goes the same for sororities and fraternities. I’m sure Greek-Life students are excited to see their brothers and sisters again!

9. Your campus in general

Because I miss waking up and seeing the view every morning. Sounds cheesy but I mean…am I wrong?

10. Freedom

This is an obvious one for college students. Even though “adult-ing” can be hard sometimes, there are always benefits to being on your own and making your own decisions.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
