8 Reasons I Can't Wait To Go Home

I've loved you Bru, but I can't wait to leave

Dear Bru,

I've loved being able to call you home for the past two semesters as I enjoyed my freshman year. You gave me a safe place to live with tons of memories and my friends always close by. However, for all your great qualities there are some iffy ones and some things that you just can't replace. While I'll miss you, I also won't. There are a few reasons why I can't wait to go home.

1. My Family

I think this is the most obvious and universal reason. I can’t wait to get home and see my family and my pets. Having time and space all to myself is nice, but at the end of the day, family is super important to me.

2. The Food

One of my biggest complaints about college is the food. The same bland, nondescript things and so much that they don’t feed us. I miss good food, and I miss food that the dining hall has never attempted to make (I’m looking at you, steak).

3. The Bathroom Situation

I cannot wait to not have to share a bathroom with a dozen other girls. My house might only have one bathroom (we’re still working on adding more), but it’s still better than dorm bathrooms. It’s neater, gets cleaned better and I only have to share it with three people.

4. The Noise Situation

Albany, I love you, but you’re noisy. The melody of sirens, cars honking and various other things are lovely, but not my preference. Brubacher, I love you but you are also very noisy. I will not miss the sound of people coming home late on weekends and running around late at night. I also will not miss the garbage being picked up at one am, right outside my window.

5. The Roommate Situation

I actually love my roommate. I moved in with her in October and she’s great. She’s there for me, she’s neater than I am and I honestly don’t know what I would have done without her. That being said, I think I’m just used to having my own room. And that’s another thing--my own room, with a good bed, lots of space and my own material possessions everywhere.

6. The Walk to Campus

Yes, this one is purely my laziness. However, my dorm is a ten minute walk to campus and while I usually enjoy the walk, there were definitely days that I didn’t enjoy it. Anytime the weather was bad or changed negatively while I was in class, I had so much fun walking home (not). And catching the shuttle was never something I was good at.

7. My Non-College Friends

While I've met tons of great people at college, nothing can replace those friends back home that I've known for years. And while I've been texting and calling, nothing can replace seeing them and hanging out like we used too.

8. Time to Relax

I do need to get a job, but still the break from classes, midterms and everything else college involves will be nice. Being able to relax, do things with my friends and family and just enjoy myself will be amazing.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
