10 Reasons Why I'm Thankful For My Big Sister

There is no one else like her. She can brighten my day with a simple phone call and can make me feel like I can conquer the world with a little advice. She has my back no matter the situation. I know that others will come and go but my sister will forever be there. She chooses to be that sister that every young girl dreams of having and I could not thank the Lord enough for blessing me with such a wonderful sister. She is my hero and if I can grow up to be half the person she is I will be completely satisfied.

1. She’s been there since day one.

She has been there through it all. She saw every milestone you took and every setback you struggled with. She knows anything and everything about you that you could possibly think of.

2. She doesn’t sugar coat anything.

She will tell you exactly how it is because she knows what is always in your best interest. After all, she is the one who has been there and done that so she’s only trying to protect you from making the same mistakes she did.

3. She gives the best advice.

I’ve never had someone give me better advice than my sister. She knows just what to say to make me feel like everything will be okay again and she always ends up being right.

4. She has a pretty killer wardrobe.

At one time you may have hated the fact that you got all of her hand me downs but now you love the moments when she asks if you want her clothes because shopping in her closet is your favorite place to shop.

5. She has some great stories on you.

She can tell the wild stories about you that you don’t even remember. She remembers every funny thing you said as a toddler and when you accidently slipped that dirty word you heard someone say.

6. She supports you.

She doesn’t care what career you choose or what college you go to as long as it makes you happy. She wants the best for you and is willing to help you in any and all ways to help you get there.

7. She holds your favorite memories.

You’ve laughed with her until you’ve cried because you both think the stupidest things are the funniest. She stayed up with you until 3:00 A.M. watching your favorite movies and talking about the latest down low on your hometown.

8. She is forgiving.

Most people can’t handle your sassy attitude or your undeniably bratty moments, but she loves you nevertheless. You made her so angry at times when you were younger but she always forgave you because she cares about you more than any other friend ever could.

9. She despises everyone you do.

Anyone who has done you wrong basically did just as wrong to her. If a boy broke your heart or you get in a fight with a friend she is always going to have your back no matter the situation.

10. She knows what it’s like to deal with your parents.

Whatever is going on with you and your parents she probably went through it first. She can be that little push that helps you get through it, and it’s always nice to have someone there who knows the struggle.

Big sister, you will never know how much you truly mean to me. I love you to the moon and back.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?
