10 Reasons Being Home For Break From College Is The Best

Not that we really need any.

It's been a long semester and, to be honest, we're all just ready to go home, so here's the definitive list of all aspects of home we're looking forward to this holiday season.

1. Food, Real Food

Nothing against cafeteria food—ok, everything against cafeteria food—but nothing compares to mom's cooking and a fully stocked fridge.

2. Cats...Dogs...Hermit Crabs...

No matter what animals live on your island of misfit toys, everyone misses their childhood pets—even if they are minions of darkness that seek only to constantly trip you.

3. Dinosaur Pajamas

Who are we kidding, we wear those anyway.

4. No Roommates

Sure there's family and siblings, but you don't know how good you've got it until you've spent an entire semester living with two other emotionally unstable college students that you've never met before. Think about it.

5. A Killer VHS Collection

Every Scooby-Doo movie ever made, what more could you want?

6. Seeing Stars

This is only relevant for people that grew up in the boonies, but being able to see a full spectrum of stars is incomparable.

7. A Normal Sleep Cycle

You have the chance to fix what you messed up while you were away because, shocker, people actually sleep at home. I know, it's an unheard of concept.

8. The Bed

You can go back to a time when you didn't know what a Twin XL bed was or what it feels like to sleep in one.

9. No Couches With Mysterious Stains

We all sleep on the stained couches at school anyway, but it's nice not to worry about the scary liquids occupying the seat next to you.

10. It's Home

There's no place like home.

It doesn't matter what city, state or country your home is located in, what turns a house into a home is the people around you. So kids, remember to love family, pet your cats, and be thankful for what you have this holiday season. Oh! And sleep while you still can, you're going to need it.

We don't buy into these... just like how we don't buy our friends.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
