10 Reasons A Fish Is The Perfect College Pet

In This Article:

One of the worst parts about college is without a doubt leaving your beloved pets at home. College can be lonely and sometimes, it can just be nice to have an animal with you too! It can be hard to house most pets, especially in campus dorms, but fish are a great addition to any college student's room.

1. Fish don't need a lot of space!

They really just need a bowl or tank depending on the species and size. The general rule is about 10 gallons to an inch but Beta fish can live in much smaller habitats. It's easy to just place them on your desk or drawers without having to worry about having a large enough room for them to be happy in.

2. They are relatively inexpensive to care for!

Fish can still be expensive, especially when you are just starting out and need tanks, food and all the rest of it. However, after this initial cost, fish really don't cost a lot to keep.

3. And they aren't as time consuming as other pets!

Most college campuses generally will allow a small fish tank in their dorm rooms. This is a great aspect of having a fish as you never have to worry about them being caught and removed from your dorm or being fined a significant amount for sneaking an animal in.
