10 Reasons Why Red Heads Have More Fun

1. Our hair is natural and everyone knows it!

Whenever I go to get my hair done it is always mentioned to me how lucky I am that I do not have to worry about dying my hair. It is very easy to tell the difference between a fake red head and a real one. More power to the people who want to look like us but we see you!

2. We smell like the beach 24/7 because sunscreen is a necessity.

Yes it is the most annoying thing ever to have to be more cautious of getting burned, but it only takes 15 minutes to get some color! And who wouldn't want to feel like they are going to the beach when you're simply walking to class everyday!

3. No one else looks as good when turning bright red

It is definitely embarrassing when I turn 50 shades of red when presenting in front of a class or laughing with friends. In my opinion you'll never bore the people you are talking to or laughing with because who wouldn't be entertained by a laughing/talking tomato! Also, to all the red heads out there, would you rather be albino? That's what I thought!

4. You'd be lucky to know one because we are a rare breed

It is a known fact that red heads only make up 2% of the world's population. So hurry up people because there isn't much time before we die out! Get to know at least one red head now before it's too late!

5. We look good in the winter when all the tan peeps are yellow

As jealous as I can be of all of the tan people in the summer time (even though I can get what I like to call sun kissed), red heads do have an advantage in the winter. This is because we are already pale with rosy cheeks and the tan people just get pasty and yellow. Sorry not sorry!

6. The compliments just keep on coming

Ever since I was a little girl in the grocery store with my mom having old ladies get googlie eyed over my hair, the compliments have yet to stop. After all of the negativity red heads tend to get about not having souls or not having the ability to get more tan it is nice that people can still appreciate that we still have something cool about us too.

7. We can take the pain

Apparently it is a fact that red heads have a high pain tolerance due to the MC1R gene that we possess, which releases a chemical called pheomelanin, blocking the brains ability to receive pain. This does seem too go to be true, but personally I can relate to this because for me it takes a lot to say that it actually hurt me. Unfortunately, the emotional pain of a broken heart does not pertain to this fact. Sick.

8.We come together like no other

I can honestly say that I have not met another red head that I did not like. This is probably because we are all awesome, but I'm just biased. We also have a two day event in Switzerland where all different kinds of red heads meet up and basically celebrate how awesome we really are! I'm a red head that would rather spend money to go somewhere tropical and try to hopelessly tan, but that's still pretty cool!

9. Gingers = flowers

While researching some facts about red heads I found that bees are more attracted to us because we resemble a color of a beautiful flower more so than blondes and brunettes. That may mean that I'm more likely to get stung more, but either way I'm considered delicious!

10. Always noticed and never forgotten

Even as a red head I will never forget the friends I have made over the years that are also red heads. One could call it a bond or you could say most of us are just genuinely nice people who some don't want to forget. So if you're reading this and you see me in a crowd of people (because I'm really not hard to spot) come say hi! And if I've met you I'd hope you'll remember me as being a cool person but also by my hair because it is definitely something that I have come to love and want other people to like it too!

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
