The last almost 500 days (yes, we have been counting) without One Direction have been some of the most dismal days in existence. We have gotten small tastes of the former 1D glory days here and there through interviews, Instagram posts, and solo appearances, but nothing will ever quench our thirst for a full blown reunion except, well, a full blown 1D reunion.
Luckily, to fill the giant boyband-sized gap in all of our hearts, our boys have blessed us with some solo singles, which have all exceeded expectations. The newest addition to the batch is the long awaited single from Mr. Harry Styles, "Sign of the Times." The 70s British rock inspired tune is just what one would expect from Styles, yet none of us could have ever prepared ourselves for the true masterpiece that we received.
Here are 10 things every One Direction fan felt while listening to "Sign of the Times."
1. It's only one second in, but you can already smell the Grammy.
2. Harry: "Just stop yo-"
3. He's only been singing for ten seconds, but you're already smiling like an idiot because you just missed his voice so much.
4. THE FALSETTO! IS THIS REAL LIFE?
5. You didn't think it could get any better, but here comes the electric guitar.
6. You already know the bridge is going to kill you, and you haven't even made it there yet.
7. "Will we ever LEARN? We've been here beFORE!"
8. OK thank God it's almost over; almost six minutes of this is just cruel.
9. You spoke too soon... the ending hurts far worse than any other part.
Harry is screaming that he's got to get away, but really it's you that has to get away. Far away.
10. Finally it's over, and you can just relax, enjoy, and bask in your pride.
Coping with One Direction's hiatus hasn't been easy, but as long as the boys keep the incredible solo songs coming, maybe we will all manage to make it through. "Sign of the Times" is truly a musical marvel, and getting to see Harry doing what he loves and thriving will make it well-worth all of the emotional suffering. So buy it on iTunes, and put it on repeat. While you're at it, maybe start preparing yourself to see it performed on Saturday Night Live in a few days.... we're all gonna need it.
