10 Random Tips for Life!

There are so many things that we forget, so it is nice to have little reminders. Everything about this list is random and just the thoughts that I have — This is what I want to tell others and also myself!

Do what makes you happy!

We ask others for their advice but at the end of the day, this is your life and you need to decide what you want to do! If others do not approve of your decision, that’s fine. It is not their decision. No need to please everybody because, that is exhausting and also not possible.

Don’t be lazy this summer!

It’s so easy to just get back from work and decide that you are not feeling it and turn on the TV. Binging on Netflix is perfectly acceptable, but you do not want that to contribute to your whole summer. Nice weather is here! Time for adventure and good friends!

Nothing is set in stone!

You don’t like something in your life, you have the power to change it! Don’t wait for Monday, start now! You don’t like where you’re living, you are not chained to one place. We often believe that we are stuck, but there is always a choice. Your living situation, your relationship, your career — if there are more negatives than positives, then make the decision to change it!

Take risks and get out of your comfort zone!

Your life is the sum of your experiences, so do the thing that scares and excites you. Whether it is Karaoke or going water skiing for the first time. You are not going to sit there in the future and tell your grand-kids how you watched Netflix. You are going to tell them about the time you went rock climbing or taking a road trip to the coast!

Appreciate what you have!

This is often said and it is always good to have reminders, because we can take things in our life for granted. It is easy to be distracted with the things that we want in life and not look around and see how much we have.

Enjoy the little things!

When your favorite song comes on or you get the last cookie, whatever it may be, take the time to be grateful. Life is better when we start counting the blessings.

Do something for yourself!

Take a class, try yoga, go for a walk by yourself, create something! With work and our busy schedules it can be easy to forget to do something for ourselves. Don’t feel bad for taking time out of your day to do something that makes you happy.

Exercise!

There is so much more that working out can do for you than just changing your body. It gives you endorphins, which make you feel better. You will gain confidence in yourself and realize what you are capable of. And hey, beach bodies are always a good feeling too!

Let people know how you feel about them!

If it is something positive, then you should definitely say something. You could make someone’s whole day by just a few words. People can say, “you know how I feel,” but it is always nice to hear positive things.

Smile!

It seems a little ridiculous, but even when you are not feeling the best, smiling will help you feel better. Smiling is contagious and it is awesome to be the reason someone else smiled!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."
