In case you didn’t know, this week is campaign week for all elections here at Texas A&M University. Whether it be Yell Leader, Student Body President or Senate positions, the banner holding, slogan saying and Facebook sharing will be in full swing.
This year, we have a plethora of students running for these various positions, and unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve seen the catchy slogans and funny videos circulating social media. But with voting coming up this week, it is especially important you understand what these individuals stand for.
Out of all the elections, Student Body President is arguably the most important. This person will determine the feel of this campus and set the tone for the entire student body.
This week I caught up with one of the candidates running for this prestigious position--Hannah Wimberly. Hannah is currently a Junior here at Texas A&M. During her time here she has been involved in many organizations including, Class Councils, Fish Camp and multiple positions within Student Government Association. In order get to know Hannah better, I asked her a few light-hearted questions:
1. In one sentence what is your platform?
I will work to enhance the Aggie Experience by focusing on four key issues: the legislative agenda, student services, campus beautification and diversity and inclusion.
2. What is your Favorite A&M tradition?
My favorite Aggie Tradition is Muster. There is absolutely nothing that better describes the "spirit that can ne'er told" than celebrating the lives of our fellow Aggie Family members. A Muster can be a large or small celebration, formal or a casual BBQ with classmates--no matter how it is conducted, it exemplifies the spirit and values that we hold so dear at Texas A&M.
3. MBTI?
I am a textbook ENFJ--I really enjoy meeting new people and learning more about their stories.
4. If you could change one thing about Texas A&M's campus what would it be?
If I could change one thing about campus, I would have more 24-hour dining options. Students are pretty much always on campus, and vending machines just don’t cut it after a long night of studying.
5. Where is your favorite spot to study on campus?
My favorite study spots are Koldus and the Liberal Arts Building. Koldus because I spend the vast majority of my time in the Student Activities Office, and the Liberal Arts Building because of its incredible views! The Buzbee Leadership Learning Center is quickly becoming one of my favorite spots, as well.
6. Favorite hobby?
My two favorite hobbies would be horseback riding and spontaneous road trips with friends. I'm not ashamed to say that most of our road trips revolve around finding the best and most interesting food that we can.
7. Ideal profession?
Like many college students, I'm still not 100% sure about what I want to do after graduation. My ideal job is one where I have a different schedule every day and get to interact with as many people as possible.
8. Best place to eat in CStat?
Oh goodness, I could probably fill an entire article with my thoughts about eating in College Station. I'm a regular at Blue Baker and Mad Taco, it just depends on what I want that day! If you would like to write an article about the definitive ranking of tacos in College Station, I would be happy to provide my research for you!
9. What is your favorite quote?
My favorite quote has to do with Texas A&M. Phil Adams '70 said, “It was here that our lives were forever changed, and loyalty to one another and to a cause greater than self-filled our hearts.” There aren't many quotes that I identify with more.
10. Favorite song on the radio right now?
That's a challenging one! I have a really varied taste in music, so it depends on what mood I'm in. Right now, I'm a huge fan of 'Work' by Rhianna, 'History' by One Direction (yes, I am a 1D fan), and anything by Adele.
So, there we go Aggies. I hope you have gotten to know Hannah a little better. And don’t forget to vote this week on the 25th and 26th online at vote.tamu.edu.
