Ten Places To Cool Off In Texas This Summer

Texas is one of the hottest places to be in the during the summer. There's no way to escape that, but there are countless things to do throughout the entire state during the hot months and there are plenty of places to get away from the 100+ degree weather. One of the best is visiting a local watering hole.

Here are my top 10 throughout the state:

10. Lake Tejas- Woodville, Tx (distance from Fort Worth: 247 miles- 3 hours and 44 minutes)

A notable feature of Lake Tejas is their 100 foot long "Wet Willy" slide that splashes down into almost the middle of the recreational swimming area. There are also high diving areas placed within the depths of the water, which make for an interesting twist on the diving board. While this spring-fed lake is not open late into the fall, it is still open to fishing and camping. This spot is known to be a great location for families and large groups of people.

9. Burger Lake- Fort Worth, Tx (distance from Fort Worth: 6.7 miles- 18 minutes)

The closest of the locations to Fort Worth; just an afternoon trip away from the heart of downtown. Burger Lake is a spring-fed lake with refreshing waters set up in a style meant for visitors. With two different sandy beaches, six diving boards, a 20 foot slide, a 25 foot trapeze over the waters, and a couple slides, this lake is perfect for an afternoon dip.

8. Comal River- New Braunfels, Tx (distance from Fort Worth: 237 miles- 3 hours and 35 minutes)

Known as "the longest shortest river in the world" by locals, the Comal River is great for those that want to grab a tube and float, but don't want to have to do so for four plus hours. And, with relatively slow moving waters and minimal rapids, its perfect for anyone that's looking to just relax. There are several local companies offering tube rentals along with pick ups after floating the river, which make floating easy and care free with plenty of people to socialize with along the river. The area is also well known for great scuba diving due to the different items accidentally left behind by thousands of tubers that float its banks

7. Blanco State Park- Blanco, Tx (distance from Fort Worth: 238 miles- 3 hours and 44 minutes)

A great area for both just floating in the water to cool off and enjoying slowly cruising down the Blanco River on a tube, Blanco State Park is a great location if you're looking to go camping for the weekend. With activities ranging from just swimming and fishing to nature trails and scenic viewing, this state park is great if you're looking for a weekend camp out.

6. Blue Hole- Wimberley, Tx (distance from Fort Worth: 226 miles- 3 hours and 29 minutes)

Tucked away and hidden within the unique town of Wimberley, Tx is Blue Hole Regional Park. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes of tall, aged cypress trees (which provide great shade from the summer sun), the swimming hole is loved by all Wimberley natives and anyone that makes the visit down to the small town. If visited, I would suggest finding one of the many rope swings along the bank to jump in for a great splash. And while in Wimberley, check out some of the rich culture the small town has to offer.

5. Barton Springs- Austin, Tx (distance from Fort Worth: 192 miles- 2 hours and 52 minutes)

This Austin hot spot is great for a swim on a hot day. The man-made swimming pool is fed from a local spring that keeps these waters at a cool 68-72 degrees, even on the hottest Texas days. Although a very popular spot right near Zilker Park in Austin, there is usually plenty of space to lay a few towels down on the large grassy hill overlooking the pool and get some sun in-between your trips in the water. Well worth the trip and even more so that you would be getting to spend some time in the unique city of Austin.

4. Krause Springs- Spicewood, Tx (distance from Fort Worth: 196- 3 hours and 22 minutes)

Known for its numerous natural sites perfect for exploring, Krause Springs has 32 different springs on site. There is both, a man-made pool, and natural pool on the property. I recommend checking out both, but the natural pool has a much better environment and scenery surrounding it, plus it's the only watering hole on the list with an easy accessible waterfall feeding into it.

3. Hamilton Pool- Dripping Springs, Tx (distance from Fort Worth: 210 miles- 3 hours and 22 minutes)

Hamilton Pool is one of my personal favorites when it comes to scenery because of the unique dome overhang and fern covered limestone around the banks. Although the wait to get in can typically be up to an hour and a half, this is a definite bucket list location and famed instagram location spot. Once you are in the cool waters and amazing scenery makes the wait well worth it. Yet another location near Austin makes this spot worth the weekend trip.

2. Jacob's Well- Wimberly, Tx (distance from Fort Worth: 224 miles- 3 and 35 minutes)

One of Texas' most well known spots, from its recognizable shallow waters and deep caverns and caves that can reach up to 30 feet deep. These caves are typically jumped into from the surrounding ledges around the crisp water's edge. Jacob's well is worth the road trip down and should be a Texas bucket list item because of its incredible views and unique layout. I highly recommend conquering your fear of heights to jump into one of the deep water caves. It's well worth the story... and the action shot instagram picture.

1. Guadalupe River- New Braunfels, Tx (distance from Fort Worth: 242 miles- 3 hours and 42 minutes)

If you live in Texas, go to school in Texas, or even just like to say you love Texas then you should have long since already tubed the Guad. A Texan staple and known throughout the state, the Guadalupe is a very popular location that draws people from all over the state. Hugely popular on long weekends, it's like a party on the water when you get the chance to tube down the Guadalupe. There are a number of tubing services to let you do so, and the river draws hundreds of thousands of tubers each year. If you have the chance, this should be on your bucket list to do, especially with recent conditions, the river is flowing better than it has in five years. I highly reccomend lining up your trip down to the Guad with a great country concert at the local Whitewater Ampitheater.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…
