There are so many things to do this winter right in the New York area.

From skiing and shopping outside of the city to ice skating and holiday traditions inside of the city, the area has tons to offer this Christmas season.

1. Thunder Ridge Ski Area

The ski resort is just a little over an hour outside of New York City, and Metro North and a shuttle from the city take you right to the slopes.

2. Fifth Avenue

Wander the streets in the city to see the stores’ holiday displays and light shows.

3. Radio City Musical Hall

You can’t miss the Rockettes this year! Tickets to the annual show are great gifts for relatives and other people whose wish lists are lacking.

4. Woodbury Common

The outlets are always great options when there’s nothing to do and if it’s not absolutely freezing outside.

5. Bryant Park Winter Village

Besides the free ice skating, Bryant Park has over 150 holiday vendors to stock up on Christmas gifts or to just waste some time and wander around.

6. Coney Island

Jump into the freezing cold water at the Boardwalk at Stillwell Avenue in Coney Island to raise money for local aquariums.

7. Brooklyn Winery

They offer special classes that teach how to pair winter wines with winter dishes.

8. New York Botanical Garden

Until Jan. 15, see the Garden’s Train Show that features New York landmarks in Christmastime made out of plants.

9. Central Park

Ditch Rockefeller Plaza and go ice skating in Central Park instead. The views around the park while you walk to the rink are well worth it.

10. Windham Mountain Resort

For a longer weekend option, take the three-hour drive up toward Albany and go skiing at Windham, which offers dozens of trails for different difficulty levels.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
