January has had us all feeling healthy af thanks to our resolutions to run every day and eat clean (still not entirely sure what that means), but February is upon us and everybody knows what that means... it's time to EAT. We'll get back to our kale salads and the elliptical when May comes around and the summer bod is more necessary, but for now, let's eat some damn donuts.
1. Donut Bar, Downtown
With Oreo stuffed donuts and soft serve ice cream swirled in piping hot churro cones, San Diego's famous Donut Bar is the perfect place to start a treat yo'self marathon weekend.
2. Hodad's, Ocean Beach
If you've never had a bacon burger and a malted chocolate milkshake from Hodad's in Ocean Beach, you might as well pack your bags and leave San Diego now tbh.
3. Soda & Swine, North Park and Liberty Station
The meatballs are bomb, but this place is all about the sides. Order the dirty fries and the mac n cheese and the brussels sprouts. And might as well finish with apple pie because *balance*, right?
4. The Crack Shack, Little Italy
Come for the fried chicken sandwiches and stay for the soft serve freak-shakes that bring new meaning to the word extra.
5. Kono's Cafe, Pacific Beach
Bring cash, a (huge) appetite, and some patience because the only thing bigger than the portions at Kono's is usually the line. But I promise you, it is always worth it.
6. The Cravory, Point Loma
You can pick up a dozen gourmet cookies at the bakery in Point Loma, grab a few from any of the farmers' markets across SD, or have them delivered right to your doorstep. Which is perfect because once you've tried one, you'll never want to go without a Cravory birthday cake cookie again.
7. Dirty Birds, Pacific Beach and Liberty Station
They've got more than a dozen different kinds of wings, tons of local beers on tap, and chili cheese tater tots. Your resolutions won't know what hit 'em.
8. Lucha Libre Taco Shop, Mission Hills and North Park
Lucha Libre has arguably the best Cali burrito in San Diego, but if you really want to go big, skip the traditional route and order a Ado-Haba Cali. Trust me, you'll never go back to Sara's (sober) again.
9. Board & Brew, Pacific Beach
"I would dip everything I own in their orange sauce." -Ian Lituchy, a tried and true sandwich enthusiast
10. The Great Maple, Hillcrest
A Sunday in San Diego isn't complete without brunch, and the only brunch food decadent enough to really wipe out those resolutions is a huge plate of fruity pebble covered pancakes. Might as well go all out and order the maple bacon doughnuts and a watermelon lemon presse mimosa while you're at it.
