I asked some of my friends who are already in college for their best advice for incoming college freshmen.

1. The most said advice, be yourself. It is so important to be yourself because this is how you will find your true friends, and where you belong. College is all about finding who you are, and your interests.

2. Get involved on campus. Getting to college, you most likely will not know a lot of people, so the best way to find friends is to get involved. In your first year, I recommend getting involved within two to three organizations or clubs. This will help you be connected on campus, and will help you make tons of friends, and connections. You might even find an organization or club that will help make your school feel like home!

3. Be easy going. College is a lot like being in the real world, so go with the flow. You can't control life, or everything that happens to get be able to let things go, and let others lead the way.

4. Always have your computer, a notebook, and a pen. You never know when you need to write something down, or look something up. You might even be late to class, but if you already have your things on you, you're all set!

5. Be friendly. You never know what kind of day someone is having. Being friendly could get you somewhere you didn't think was possible!

6. Go to office hours frequently. Show your professor you are trying, and putting in the work. Also, let the professor get to know you. The more your professor knows you, and sees how hard you are working, the more they will want to help you.

7. Manage your time. If you want to get involved on campus, and go out with your friends, make sure you have set time for everything. Remember, you are at college to learn, so make sure your school work gets done before it's too late!

8. Study hard, play hard. Like I just said, you are at college to learn, but it's equally as important to have fun with your friends. So, as long as you are getting your work done, go out and have fun!

9. See your academic advisor at least once a semester. Make sure you are taking the correct courses, and you are on track for your major. The better you get to know your academic advisor, the better they can help you.

10. Go to the job fair at least once a semester too. Although you may not know what you want to be, it's good to get your feet wet, and see what's available, and out there. You will be able to make connections with different employers, and maybe even find an internship!

Good luck to all the incoming freshmen this year!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
