10 Things All Short, Independent People Know To Be True
girls ask guys

Living in a world of constantly getting your pants hemmed and being asked “How’s it going down there?”, you tend to think of the negatives of being short. Rarely do we ever thing of the many positives there actually are about being a short, little ball of sunshine. In a world full of negatives, here is a list of 10 positives that make being short not so bad.

1. Getting pants hemmed has become part of your shopping routine.

Regardless of where you buy them, there’s a good chance you’ll have to get your pants hemmed. Thank goodness you have your seamstress on speed-dial aka your cute Grandma.

2. Capris are always regular length.

Just like the whole getting your pants hemmed, there’s a good chance that capris or 7/8 pants fit you just like regular jeans should. Why spend the extra money on regular length pants when you can just buy capris?

3. You have an awesome excuse to stand on EVERYTHING.

Good chance you have a step stool around your house somewhere for those hard to reach places. Standing on the counter becomes such a regular thing that people don’t even question it anymore.

4. T-shirts are easy to turn into casual dresses.

Tall people have to constantly worry about dresses being too short and their butts hanging out, but that isn’t something you have to worry about with being short! In some cases, you can even wear a shirt that counts as a dress!

5. Shaving your legs is a walk in the park.

Being short, aka short legs, aka less leg to actually shave. Every girl hates shaving her legs so that’s definitely another perk of being short.

6. It's so easy to fit into small places.

Whether you are playing hide and go seek or just trying to find a nice, comfy place to sleep, being small comes in handy.

7. You're never too tall for things (shower, desk, car, hallway, doorway, etc.)

Tall people have to worry about being TOO tall for so many things- shower heads, sitting somewhere, and so many more things. Being short, you never have to worry about getting your whole body clean because you can’t fit under the shower head.

8. Your significant other is always towering over you.

When you are short, most people are taller than you (obviously). Rarely do you ever have the problem of your significant other being being shorter than you, because not too many people are.

9. You can pass as a small child.

Being told you can pass as a kid when your 18+ years old definitely has its pros and cons. Pros: kid’s menu and kid’s clothes.

Cons: Being carded at every rated R movie you go to.

10. Heels are an essential.

Tall people have the problem of not being able to wear heels because they are too tall, but short people never have that problem. You can wear heels all you want because you’ll finally be the same height as the rest of your friends.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
