From age 10 to age 18, I am proud to say that I was a theater kid. That being said, I feel like I’m obligated to shine light on the fact that at times, theater kids do and say some things that are considered “extra”, but that’s what made us fun! Here are the top 10 most “extra” things that theater kids do or say.
1. The day before opening night, you walk into class with lemon tea and honey and confidently say, “I really should be on vocal rest.”
2. When ANY song comes on the radio, immediately saying, “Ooh, let’s harmonize to this."
3. When someone says, “Theatre kids at my school were kind of weird” and immediately justifying their statement by saying, “Yeah no, we were cool."
4. When anyone asks you to do anything… “Sorry, I have rehearsal."
5. When the director says there is a five-minute break during rehearsal and everyone forms a massage train.
6. When Chorus Line starts playing on Spotify, “I know the dance to this song!”
7. Complaining about how much mic tape hurts when you take it off, when really you just want to brag that you even have a mic in the first place.
8. “I’m a pro at walking in heels, I have to wear character shoes AND dance in them everyday during rehearsal."
9. When someone asks you what your dream role is, you basically give a speech about what it is and why you are perfect for the part. And if they say, they "just don’t see it”, you immediately go into diva mode.
10. And lastly… it may sound cheesy, but always referring to your cast as your fam. And no matter how many shows you have been in, crying every time the production ends.
