I just found my 3,300th cache recently, so I thought it would be appropriate to talk about some of my favorite geocache finds over the past seven years. I have 80 favorite geocaches on the website and it was difficult to narrow that list down to the ten I'll mention now. I'll try not to give too much away! They're all pretty great and it's hard to rank them, so they'll be listed alphabetically.
1. BGT11- Caching SoUVenirs Reeally Rock (GC64677)
The entire Blackshear Geotour was awesome and I thought every geocache was flawlessly executed. This cache was a cool multi-stage one. Without spoiling too much, I'd suggest paying attention to particular letters in the title. They might come in handy!
2. BGT13- Caching Up on the News (GC3BGRJ)
This one was featured in my profile picture at one point. It was a "geocacher" newsstand, but didn't contain newspapers! To make things more interesting, I found a rotting pumpkin inside the cache. Very memorable overall!
3. BGT27- Let It Snow (GC485HQ)
I might have been thinking of a certain SNL Celebrity Jeopardy skit when I first found this cache. Let's just say what I found put my Christmas Lego displays to shame!
4. Gotta Cache ‘Em All! (GC6QJ94)
This cache is a Wherigo, which means downloading a cartridge and following a series of steps/answering questions to get to the final location. Wherigos in and of themselves are cool, but this one was especially awesome because it combined geocaching and Pokémon!
5. Keys to Midnight (GC42G9V)
This is a nightcache, which obviously is meant to be found at night. My dad and I followed a series of reflectors with our flashlights, found the "keys" and had a really fun time completing it!
6. Lamanai High (GC19505)
First of all, this cache isn't even in the United States! Second, it required climbing up the side of a temple to retrieve! I'll never forget my experience with this one. Sadly, it has since been archived (no longer able to be found), but it was fantastic while it lasted!
7. My Wife Thinks I’m Nuts (GC1GMW7)
This is definitely not a typical traditional geocache hide. The cache owner's wife is the only one who thinks he's nuts!
8. Pt. Canaveral Web Cam Cache (GCJT79)
Whoever thought to incorporate webcams into geocache was a genius. Public webcams with online links are used. As expected, not many of these exist, but the ones that do certainly don't disappoint. My favorite part about this one was that my family in Pennsylvania were able to see me, my mom, and dad when we were at the cache location!
9. SCGT - A Cool Cache (GC15RBQ)
Geocaches have sizes. Most are tiny and the larger ones are usually ammo cans. This cache is the ammo can to defy all ammo cans. You have to see it for yourself. It's huge!
10. Wherigo Golfing (The Front Nine) (GC1XYGX)
This Wherigo guided me through part of a disc golf course. It was fun to explore the area while seeking out a geocache!
As I said earlier, these are only ten of my 80 online favorites. Geocaching has exposed me to so many fun and cool things!
