There have definitely been times when I just can't stand traditional holiday songs even when the season comes around. I have spent years working in craft fairs where Michael Buble flooded the room, and don't get me wrong, I love Michael Buble, but sometimes, I just need something festive that isn't the same old thing. Have a similar issue or are you just looking to spice up your holiday playlist? Here are some new additions to look out for!
- Wish List - Neon Trees
- I first heard this song a few years back when it was one of those free Itunes downloads during the holiday season. It has become one of those songs that I listen to throughout the year just because it doesn't really sound like a holiday song, but it is! Definitely one to ease you into the season.
- Hoping for Snow - The Vamps
- This song is a cute sort of pop Christmas song that I came across last year when I just couldn't take the same old traditional Christmas songs. The Vamps lean towards the indie side and when they came out with their Christmas EP I was a little skeptical, that was until I heard this song. Good one to add to the list
- Must be Christmas - Band of Merrymakers
- This song is festive AF and probably the closes to a traditional Christmas song that I have without actually being a mainstream Christmas song. The music doesn’t start without a good helping of that cliche little sleigh bell sound, but then again when people think of Christmas songs, there is that interest in the happy sleigh bells and The Band of Merrymakers delivers on that.
- Christmas, Baby please come home - Anberlin
- This is another one of those covers that lean more on the rock end than those traditional covers that your used to. Anberlin takes this classic and they keep their sound while still keeping the intention of the song which opens it to those who are steering away from traditional songs and are looking for something a little harder.
- Dear Santa - Mr. Little Jeans
- If you want that slightly up beat but perfectly sway worthy beat, you'll love this one. Mr. Little Jeans offers an indie groove to portray a song that could easily be an close replacement for those who love the sultriness from the classic Santa Baby.
- Cuddle Up - Catey Shaw
- Catey Shaw has a very Sara Barellies vibe when she starts this song with nothing but a piano (and sleigh bells of course). She has a certain indie pull to her voice, but a more pop sounding melody that offers another cute and fun song to add to your Holiday event playlist.
- Merry Christmas Baby - Hunter Hayes
- For all you country fans, this Christmas song is a fun one from one of my favorites. Though I am no longer an avid country fan, Hunter Hayes is one of those artists that I still jam to, and this is one of those Christmas songs that isn't on the mainstream but definitely should d be.
- Christmas Lights - Yellowcard
- Most of the songs on this list so far have been more on the upbeat end, but everyone needs a slower holiday song. Yellowcard, off the punk goes Christmas album came up with this song that has that pop punk edge with the emotion of a lost love that always tends to come around Christmas time. Every playlist needs a holiday song that talks about how much it doesn’t feel like the holidays.
- Fool’s Holiday- All Time Low
- All time low has two pretty great Holiday songs. Merry Christmas Kiss My Ass from their Dirty Work album and this one off the Punk Goes Christmas album. Though Merry Christmas Kiss My Ass has that sassy spite that tends to pop up around holiday parties (and if you need that, by all means, look up the song), Fool’s Holiday has that a more positive sentiment that i keep going back to when I think of my favorite of the two all time low Christmas songs.
- Have yourself a merry little Christmas - the Holidaze
- IF YOUR GOING TO LISTEN TO ANY OF THE SONGS ON THE PLAYLIST MAKE IT THIS ONE. Honestly this song gets me so worked up and festive. ITS JUST SO GOOD. First of all, five of my favorite people of all time are involved. Joel from Good Charlotte, John from Goldfinger, Alex from All Time Low, Pierre from Simple plan and Ashton from 5 Seconds of Summer came together to work on this holiday cover for the Ryan Seacrest foundation in 2015 and will be a holiday must have for me forever. Just… listen to it… trust me… damn. Holidaze, please please please make a full album!
