What did people do before Spotify? That's the question. I am lightly obsessed with making playlists for every occasion; from birthday parties, to studying, to getting ready in the morning. I am always looking for new bands, songs and concerts to go to. Recently I have found ten really easy to listen to indie rock and pop songs. Give these songs and bands a listen. I promise you will not be disappointed!
1. Coast Modern - Animals
Los Angels based duo keeps coming back with more electro-pop/indie rock/psych pop songs. Animals will have you singing along in the car. Some similar artisits include Hippo Campus and Borns.
2. Declan McKenna - Brazil
The teen heart throb Declan McKenna is singer/songwriter form Great Britain. He released his first single in 2014 called "Brazil" which was a huge success with over six million plays on Spotify alone. His music is very poppy and light and something most people could appreciate.
3. The Moth & The Flame - Sorry
This experimental rock band for Los Angles influences include Radiohead, Imagine Dragons, Beck, and Neon Trees.
4. Mutual Benefit - Lost Dreamers
A band that combines a mixture of folk, psychedelic pop, and experimental recording techniques. They always has me wanting more and one of their main influences in Sufjan Stevens. This band recently played in Kingston, NY and unfortunately was not able to go, but I heard they were amazing live. A great band to study to in my opinion.
5. Good Morning - Warned You
Based in Melbourne, Australia, Good Morning is a soft spoken indie rock band. When I listen to them I feel like I should be in Urban Outfitters or something. They are also a great band to listen to while studying or laying low on a Sunday afternoon.
6. The Avalanches - Because I'm Me
This band, also from Australia, takes sampling albums to a whole new level. What I love so much about this band is that each song has bits and pieces of well known songs combined with their original instrumentation. Wildflower, their newest album, is a lot of fun to listen to.
7. Astronauts, etc. - Eye To Eye
This "supermelodic pulp/arena pulp music," as they call it, makes the band from Oakland, CA a hit. The soft male vocals, keyboard, guitars, and a hint of jazz gives this band a very unique sound.
8. Bombay Bicycle Club - How Can You Swallow So Much Sleep
Bombay Bicycle Club, one of the more well known bands on this list, has always been a favorite of mine. This indie rock band from North London's related artists include Vampire Weekends, The xx, and Bloc Party.
9. Tape Waves - So Fast
This dream pop, male and female duo from Charleston, SC has everyone singing along. They has a light, poppy, sound filed with soft female vocals, guitar, and drums.
10. Modern Pleasure - Kalifornia
This indie pop band from Leeds reminds me a lot of Bastille and Capital Cities. They have a nice sound with both female and male vocals and memorable lyrics.
