10 New Songs that Everyone Should Hear
era chemistry.net

I have to admit, sometimes I get into a musical rut, meaning I just start listening to the same songs over and over again. And after a week or so, the music I used to love becomes boring and annoying. So instead of going on the hard hunt for new music by browsing iTunes charts or watching all sorts of youtube videos, I like going to the "New Music Fridays" playlist on Spotify. This playlist is filled with new music from different artists spanning across many different genres. Because of all the diversity on this playlist, you will fall in love with songs and artists you would have never heard of if you just searched all the music genres and artists you are used too. These songs are what I think everyone should give at least one listen to, which came out last Friday, September thirteenth.

1. "This Town," by Niall Horan

This was the second song on Spotify's playlist, but it's on the top of mine. I believe Niall was one of the most underrated and underappreciated members of One Direction. He has a beautiful tone and the lyrics of this song are absolutely beautiful. If you are a fan of Ed Sheeran's style and sound, you will definitely fall in love with this song.

2. "All We Know," By the Chainsmokers and Pheobe Ryan

I believe the Chainsmokers have done it again and created a massive hit. I've never heard of Pheobe Ryan before this song, and from hearing her voice on this track, I am definitely looking forward to when she comes out with an album. If you are already a fan of the Chainsmokers, you will also be a big fan of this song.

3. "Trust Nobody," By Cashmere Cat, Tory Lanez, and Selena Gomez

Selena has definitely had amazing success with her Revival album from 2015, and I'm so excited about this collaboration. The beat is super catchy and the lyrics are so relatable. The contrast of the artist styles in this collab also makes the song super interesting.

4. "May I Have This Dance," Francis and the Lights

This is an artist I have never heard of and I am so happy I came across them on this playlist. Their style is so unique, it's like if a folk band and an alternative band had a baby, it would be Francis and the Lights. This is such a unique love song and it would definitely be an interesting first dance song.

5. "Pretty Girl," by Maggie Lindemann

This song is like telling society that a girl can be more than just a "pretty girl." In this song, it's telling everyone that girls don't have to be the "picture perfect" girl that they are expected to be. It's like an anthem for all the girls out there that have more guy friends, swear, and like to be a complete rebel but still be a normal girl.

6. "Star Of The Show," by Thomas Rhett

This song doesn't even need an explanation of why it's great. Thomas Rhett has done it again and created another hit song.

7. "Own It," by Bailey Bryan

By the sound of this song, Bailey Bryan is definitely an up and coming country star. This song is basically telling everyone to own and rock anything that makes them different; basically, anything that society would label as a flaw. It is super catchy and you'll probably have it stuck in your head for a while.

8. "Prophet Story," By Cobi

This one is for all my fellow folk music lovers out there. Cobi's voice and lyrics are so powerful, and this song is just so good. If you need a song to put on your go to study playlist, this is definitely a good option. (Actually, any folk song/artist is always a great option to listen to while studying for me.)

9. "Drunks," Johnnyswim

I have never heard of Johnnyswim before, but now they are on my radar. This song is another one for all the folk lovers out there. It is so calming and the harmonies in this are to die for.

10. "Boots Of A Spanish Leather," by The Lumineers

If you love The Lumineers, you will love this. If you love folk music, you'll love this. If you just love music, you will probably love this. Over the course of 4 minutes and 42 seconds, The Lumineers tell a beautiful love story and it's one you should listen too.

These are just ten of the songs featured on the playlist, and there are more songs that you will for sure want to put on playlists everywhere.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
