10 Netflix TV Shows Worth Your Time

Let's all just be honest with ourselves, we aren't going to go outside into the world anytime soon. That means that there's a lot of time to kill in between sleeping and trying to be an actual human that goes to school and/or work. Here is a list of my favorite 10 television shows on Netflix that are worth your precious free time. If you have Netflix then I would recommend checking out one or all of the above shows, and if you don't have Netflix then I am sorry you don't understand true joy.

1. Stranger Things

As a recent addition, this show only has one season with eight episodes so it's probably the shortest option on the list. However, I wish it was the longest because I am now completely obsessed with everything about it. Set in the '80s, a young boy in a small town disappears which uncovers one strange and powerful girl, secret experiments, and a terrifying new world.

Time Commitment : 8 hours

2. Bates Motel

Essentially a prequel series to the classic horror movie, Psycho, we get to meet Norman Bates and his mother before all hell breaks loose. A dark drama that follows Norman's complicated relationship with his mother in a small town and how specific events formed a serial killer.

Time Commitment : 30 hours

3. House

Dr. Gregory House is a genius physician who can treat even the most mysterious of illnesses, however, he is also the most sarcastic and brutally honest jerk. Not only is it interesting to watch the team of doctors solve medical puzzles but House's mind games and hatred for his patients makes this a fun show to come back to. This is a much longer show than most on my list but it is one of those shows that you can have playing in the background while cleaning your room, doing your makeup, or just about anything else.

Time Commitment : 177 hours

4. iZombie

Another fairly short time commitment on the list, iZombie is an interesting take on the zombie phenomenon. Liv Moore had her entire life figured out until she joined the living dead. After a feeding frenzy, she finds herself trying to resist her urges by joining ranks at a coroner's office where she can secretly snack on the brains of her patients. However, she soon realizes that by eating that person's brains she absorbs their memories and decides to use her new ability to help a detective solve murders.

Time Commitment : 13 hours

5. Jessica Jones

An action packed superhero series that follows Jessica Jones and her efforts to rebuild her life as a private investigator after a traumatic end to her brief superhero career. With only one season, this series is very easy to binge watch with its psychological thriller moments and neo-noir vibes.

Time Commitment : 13 hours

6. Friends

A classic television show that is an ABSOLUTE must see for every person on this planet. However, for the poor souls that have yet to watch this show it follows six friends in New York City that hang out in a coffee shop. Honestly, that pretty much explains the plot of the show yet there is so much more to it than that. This series beautifully shows different struggles between friends and relationships while also making me want to immediately move to Manhattan.

Time Commitment : 118 hours

7. Sherlock

Sherlock Holmes appears in this updated take of Arthur Doyle's infamous mystery story. Discover a modern day London with Holmes and his doctor as the eccentric sleuth searches for clues to solve mysteries in the 21st century. A fun crime drama that brings a modern version of the famous sleuth with great writing and performances by the actors. Even though there are three seasons, each season is made up of only three episodes along with a specialty episode making a total of ten episodes in the entirety of the show.

Time Commitment : 15 hours

8. American Horror Story

A television show unlike anything I have ever seen before, each season is completely unique with the one common factor being horror. This show doesn't have horror in its title for no reason, each season has its own ways of making you feel that thrilling chill run down your spine by exploring everyday horrors and fears. Murder House, Asylum, Coven, and Freak Show make up the four seasons that are available on Netflix, so it's pretty easy to find at least one season that makes you fall in love with the twisted drama.

Time Commitment : 51 hours

9. The Walking Dead

This is a popular show for good reason, the constant action and drama is intense as it follows a group of people who come together to try and survive in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. Most of the characters are lovable in their own ways, even though, those beloved characters are never safe. Definitely not a show for someone who can't stand blood and guts because there is a lot of it with the decaying zombies and their eating habits. However, if you aren't bothered by that type of stuff then it is a great series to check out.

Time Commitment : 67 hours

10. Gilmore Girls

A show that brings me so much nostalgia as I always think about my days watching this in the morning as I got ready for school while being stared at by the several Twilight and One Direction posters that littered my walls. Oh, the painful memories. An independent single mom, Lorelai, raises her brilliant daughter, Rory, through the continuous witty conversations and normal life drama. Another show that is perfect for playing in the background as you do whatever needs to get done, and with seven seasons there are a lot of episodes to get through.

Time Commitment : 153 hours

Hopefully this list has helped anyone who isn't sure what to watch next on Netflix, or even convinced those unsure whether or not a specific show is worth their time. And at the very least this is a peak into what I watch and maybe will bring recommendations for my future binge watching.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
