Holiday break is the time to forget about all of the guilt-filled procrastination you did during the school semester. Now procrastination is the name of your game– and guilt free. All you need is a laptop, some Netflix, lots of snacks and no motivation to do anything ever that doesn't include your bed, the kitchen, or the bathroom. Oh yeah– and a new show to watch!
Here are 10 shows that you know you need to watch and make time for:
1. "Shameless"
I love me some Shameless, in fact, I would be lying if I said I didn't already binge watch up to season four during my first couple days of break this week. I would be lying even more if I said I didn't have plans to binge watch all the way through season seven by the time this article even publishes. If sex, drugs, alcohol, battles of addiction, corrupt families, plot twists, broken families, constant confusion and the ability to stare at your long time TV crush, Lip Gallagher, are things you'd love to watch over your holiday break – break out your laptop right now and don't plan on putting it away for a solid 84 hours. You can do it. I promise. #MickeyandIanforlife
2. "Gotham"
I'm a super hero girl, so of course when Gotham showed up on Netflix I had to jump at the chance to watch it. As a busy college student, I'm not done all of the seasons, but I am beyond excited to finish it up. If Ian Gallagher (Cameron Monaghan) is a celebrity love for you like he is for me, he plays the Joker in Gotham so you're in luck to see his evil menacing charming beautiful character – God, he plays him so well too! The show is amazingly scripted and put together. It's interesting to see how each villain and hero has their own lives and play into the plot of the show. Oddly enough, it's enthralling seeing all the characters pull together in a "normal" show. It is nothing like the movies, so some hardcore fans might be disappointed, but if you're someone who loves to see things shaken up, it's just for you (especially something new while we wait for more movies). Penguin, Bruce Wayne, Joker, Gordan, Harvey... Who else will you see?
3. "Stranger Things"
I am #guilty of never seeing Stranger Things, but you cannot ignore the buzz you hear on the internet and from friends about how amazing this show is. While I can't provide any insight for the show, basically the show throws together all of the things you could ever ask for: supernatural tendencies, a-fricken-dorable cast members and government conspiracies. What else could you ask for? I'm throwing this into the mix of "shows Janet needs to binge watch" at, ironically enough, number three. I'll get there eventually, I promise.
4. "The Office"
As if this even has to be questioned as to why it is on this list. If you've ever seen the office, you know just why, and if you've never seen the office... First of all, shame on you and second of all, drop what you're doing and go binge watch it ASAP. Whether you've seen it once, twice, or seven times, "The Office" is a seasonal show that you can watch over and over and over and over again. I personally identify as Michael Scott, secretly love Dwight Schrute and obsess over the idea of Pam and Jim's relationship, but those are all beyond the point. This is one of those "can't get enough" shows, believe me on that one. Try figuring out why you love it – the comedy or the reality of it.
5. "New Girl"
"New Girl" is that show that is always playing in the back of my head- literally. My college roommate has a New Girl obsession and there is not a day where I don't hear it playing and I am sort of okay with that because it makes me love the show. Every time I listen in I feel myself ironically laughing and saying "same" (embarrassingly out-loud too...sorry for listening in Molly). Zooey Deschanel was a childhood favorite actor of mine, and seeing her in a life that I can see myself mirroring is fantastic. Personally, I feel like every college student should watch this show because I'll be damned if we won't find ourselves in their shoes one day. Best friends? Lovers? Who knows. Dysfunctional families are my specialty anyway.
6. "Once Upon a Time"
Like how Gotham is for the DC life, Once Upon a Time is for the Disney life. Also like Gotham, the characters (Disney antagonists and protagonists) carry out the plot like a real life show before giving away their true identities. It's such a cool twist on the Disney movies and shows. While the newer seasons can be a bit disappointing (mainly because of the characters), the beginning seasons are absolutely to die for. This is a show that you need to watch if you are any bit interested in Disney life because it just captures you into not wanting to put away your laptop because you're always on the edge.
7. "Narcos"
Now that Breaking Bad is in the past of course a show on this list has to be of relation to one of THE best shows on Netflix. Some may say it doesn't compare, some may say it is better, but all in all there is no doubt it's worth the watch. Narcos is another drug cartel related show that you just have to see. There is something about the secret (and terrifying) life of a violent, illegal, living on the edge activity. Making drugs, shipping drugs, doing drugs, selling drugs- why is it so fun to watch? Who knows...
8. "Bob's Burgers"
Bob's Burgers the show you simultaneously love and hate yet love way more than you hate. Oddly shown family values, family competition with the restaurant across the street, a kid hitting puberty, a kid who needs a life lesson, and a kid who is never going to grow up (you see, did I just describe each one in one line or do those apply to all of them)? Are they an insane family because they're together, or together because they're all insane? All in all, they're an all American Family to look up to, just don't end up in their burgers- I mean what?
9. "Game of Thrones"
Let's just start off with saying that this show has SUCH a high rating on literally every critique site you can imagine- that's enough to make you wanna watch, right? Or is it the medieval fantasy, the murders, the sex, the corruptness, the power, the war, or the sheer fact that this is a rare case of "WOW the show might be better than the book"? Either way, it's worth the time consumption- trust me. Take my word for it. Do it. Watch it.
10. "Good Eats"
Is this random? Maybe. Is this for your own good? Yes. Please admit that Good Eats, if not THE best show on Food Network, was one of the best. This being on this list is actually foreshadowing to the fact that Good Eats is coming back to the big screen, and it's your job to catch up on the old Good Eats to prepare yourself from the awesomeness of the soon to be Good Eats. Science, funny diagrams, skits, weird creatures, and cooking good ole' food- what else is there to love about it?
