It's a rainy Saturday night and you don't really feel like going out and doing anything. That means it's time for a lot of Netflix! Lucky for you, here are a few of my favorite, seemingly underrated films on Netflix that I could watch over and over, because yes, if you do a bit of digging you can actually find some pretty solid movies on Netflix.
1. Shakespeare in Love
A fictional but amazing tale of Shakespeare falling in love as he writes "the greatest love story ever told." It's filled with historical referances to Shakespeare's time, forbidden love, comedy, and did I mention love? Even if you are not a fan of Shakespeare (what's wrong with you?) or "Romeo and Juliet," it is an amazing, comical, cliche, but you've gotta love it, love story.
2. Not Another Happy Ending
An author is only successful when she is miserable. After her book is a best seller, Jane Lockhart is thrilled, which means she is unable to write anything else. Her publisher, desperate to get another great story out of her, goes out of his way to make her miserable once again in hopes she will finish her next book.
3. Stardust
The best, most underrated film ever. Romance, fantastical lands, witches, magic, princes, stars, pirates. "Stardust" is a fantastical movie in which Charlie Cox (the guy who plays Daredevil) in the attempt to prove his love for a maiden ventures to a magical land to retrieve a fallen star. However, the star is not just a space rock, but a young woman. But it's not that easy, because this star also has three murderous princes and a witch after her.
4. The Road Within
Three young adults, one with Tourette's syndrome, another with OCD, and a young women suffering from anorexia go on a cross-country road trip to bring a mother's ashes to the ocean. The film is a bit heavier, but it deals with the mental disorders in a positive and respectful way and shows that everyone is just trying to get by.
5. The Decoy Bride
A famous movie star just wants to get married in private, but an obsessed paparazzi will not leave her alone. So she plans a wedding on a remote Scottish island to get married in an old castle. Unfortunately, the paparazzi follows. In an attempt to get rid of the paparazzi, a fake wedding is planned with, you guessed it, a decoy bride. The cast includes Kelly MacDonald (who was the voice of Merida in Disney's "Brave") and David Tennant, the 10th Doctor, Kilgrave in "Jessica Jones." You know who he is, and he's great.
6. TiMER
In a near distant world or possibly an alternate universe, everyone has a timer that counts down to the day you meet your soulmate. Unfortunately for Oona, her timer is blank, meaning that her soulmate has not yet gotten his timer. The movie follows her as she tries to deal with this and find her soulmate.
7. Leap Year
Amy Adams plays a woman who desperately wants to be engaged to her boyfriend of four years. When he leaves for Dublin, she decides to follow him because of an old Irish tradition that a woman can propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day. Of course though, there is a storm and her plane doesn't exactly make it to Dublin and Anna (Adams) is stuck on the other side of Ireland. With the help of irishman Declan, Anna rushes to make it to Dublin on time for Leap Day.
8. Legally Blonde
Yeah, you've probably already seen it and know it's on Netflix, but come on, you can never go wrong with the amazing, feminist, girl empowering, fabulousness that is "Legally Blonde" and Elle Woods. What? Like it's hard?
9. Can't Buy My Love
Classic '80s movie. Nerdy Ronald (young Patrick Dempsey ladies) pays popular cheerleader Cindy to pretend to date him for a month. I'm sure you can guess where that's going, but it's not a movie to miss out on.
10. What's Eating Gilbert Grape?
The movie that should have given Leo his first Oscar. Gilbert Grape (Johnny Depp) is stuck in a small town, taking care of his mentally disabled brother (DiCaprio) and his severely overweight mother. Things are turned around when a young woman passes through town and catches the eye of Gilbert.
