I am Optimism Man

Being back from college for a month with no homework can lead to having a lot of extra time on your hands. Here are ten classic shows to watch as you curl up with a cup of hot cocoa and a blanket this holiday season.

1. Riverdale

Many of you have probably heard of Riverdale, the mystery and romance centered show starring KJ Apa, Camila Mendes, Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse. This series will keep you on the edge of your seat as the group of friends sleuth out crimes, and bring justice to the small town they call home. It's only two seasons, so this show is pretty easy to binge. Plus, Cole Sprouse. What other reason do you need?

2. The Office

This show is truly a classic. Starring Steve Carell and John Krasinski, this comedy may truly be one of the funniest shows out there. From Dwight and Jim's feuds, to Pam and Jim's romance, to Michael Scott, this show will leave you laughing so hard your stomach hurts. Seriously, a must watch.

3. Gossip Girl

Originally aired on The CW, Gossip Girl follows the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite, (and Dan Humphrey) as they rule the Upper East side. This drama-filled series will reel you in. Between being exposed by a vicious social blogger to enough cat fights to last a life time, you are not going to want to miss this show.

4. Bob's Burgers

Following the hilariously hectic lives of the Belcher family, Bob's burgers will never fail to make you laugh. Although centered around fictitious cartoon characters this show is strangely relatable, and also just hella funny.

5. 90120

90210 follows the lives of a group of Beverly Hills teenagers as they encounter romance, drama, and of course, scandal. From unplanned pregnancies to crazy parties, this show will never fail to leave you wanting more.

6. New Girl

Starring Zooey Deschanel, this romantic comedy (emphasis on the comedy) follows the lives of Jess, Schmitt, Nick, Winston, Cece, and occasionally coach, as they make their way through adulthood in their shared loft. The quirky yet charming storyline of this Fox original will without a doubt keep you laughing, and make you fall in love with the characters. (Trust me, I've watched it three times.)

7. Awkward

This show definitely lives right up to its title, awkward. This show follows the hectic life of Jenna Hamilton as she makes her way through the series of unfortunate events that seem to be her high school experience. From mean girls to love triangles, this MTV original has it all.

8. One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill follows the lives of the citizens of Tree Hill North Carolina, a tiny basketball obsessed town with more than one dirty little secret. Estranged brothers, romance galore, and of course a killer basketball game or two, this show is a must see.

9. How I Met your Mother

Taking place in the greatest city in the world, (New York, of course) this series accounts the tales of Ted Moseby hunting down his future wife, and telling his children about how he did it. Accompanied by his best friends Marshall, Lily, Barney and Robin, Ted searches endlessly for "the one," while of course stopping for a drink at MacLaren's.

10. Jane the Virgin

This rom-com made telenovela is a serious gem. Centered around the life of Jane Villanueva, a 23 year old virgin who finds herself pregnant after being accidentally artificially inseminated, this show follows the rollercoaster of a life that Jane leads. Between getting pregnant while engaged to another man, finding her estranged father, AND being amidst an ongoing series of crimes, it's safe to say that this show will not leave you yawning.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."

I was sitting at my cubicle, now that I am an adult, looking at the rain pouring down on the windowsill, bumming on life, wishing for the rain to just stop for a full day.

There are moments where we count down the hours until work is over and how many more days till the weekend, and this many weeks until something exciting. Or something like that? Well, I was bumming because my next day off from work is not until Memorial Day weekend, which is not until the end of May. And since this is my first year out of college being a “real person,” I am totally missing the winter, spring and summer breaks. I am sure all of us have felt this way even if just for a hot minute…
