10 Must See Places In West Virginia During The Fall

One of my favorite authors, F. Scott Fitzgerald, said in one of his most famous novels, "Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the Fall." Fall brings us carving pumpkins, apple cider, pumpkin spiced lattes (actually pumpkin spiced everything!), candy apples, and the gorgeous Fall foliage.

Once the weather starts to get cool, the leaves begin their beautiful transformation from different shades of green into vibrant shades of orange, yellow, and red. My husband and I are avid "leaf peepers" when the colors start to change. We love to take off on a weekend day and travel around to all the beautiful places in West Virginia. We believe in taking full advantage of the gorgeous scenery in our great state.

Here is a list of 10 beautiful, must see places in West Virginia during the Fall.

(Note: You can click on each heading to get to the park or areas website for more information.)

Blackwater Falls State Park is located in Davis, WV. This park is home to Blackwater Falls, Falls of Elakala, Falls of Pendleton, Pendleton Point Overlook, Lindy Point Overlook, and other gorgeous areas. Blackwater Falls also has several beautiful picnic and camping areas. The park is big in cross country skiing and has several hiking trails.

2. The New River Gorge Bridge

(Pictured above: The New River Gorge Bridge viewed from the Long Point Trail Overlook)

The New River Gorge Bridge is gorgeous during any season, but there is something about seeing all the different hues of orange, red, and yellow from way up high on the Long Point Trail Overlook. The New River Gorge Bridge is notoriously known for the "Bridge Day" event when the bridge becomes open to pedestrians and BASE jumpers who gather together to jump from the bridge. For a very long time the bridge was known as the longest single-span arch bridge, but now it comes in fourth place.

3. The Monongahela National Forest

The Monongahela National Forest is located along the highest ridges in West Virginia. The elevation ranges from 1000 to 4863" above sea level. The Monongahela National Forest is home to numerous hiking trails, overlook stops, picnic areas, and wetlands. There are a wide array of sites to see, making this one of the most unique places to visit in the state.

4. Grandview

Pocahontas County is a very remote county in the state of West Virginia. Within this county you can see several different farm areas, quilt barns, and lazy two lane roads. Pocahontas County is also home to some very popular West Virginia tourist attractions: Snowshoe Mountain Resort, Cass Scenic Railroad, and Watoga State Park.

Cass Scenic Railroad State Park is a truly unique park to visit in West Virginia. It resides in the gorgeous West Virginia mountains and is home to the Cass Scenic Railroad. The Cass railroad train is an original steam-driven locomotive. Guests get to essentially relive an era when they go for a ride, while the train transports them through the mountains to the summit. I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
