Milledgeville, Georgia is a small town full of history, southern charm, and hidden treasures.

Here are 10 must-see places in Milledgeville...

1. Georgia College

Originally founded in 1889 as a university for women, Georgia College and State University now serves as one of Georgia's best public, liberal arts universities. This beautiful campus is home to nearly 6,700 students. Go Bobcats!

2. The Brick

When in Milly, go to The Brick for the best brick oven pizza around! They also serve calzones, wings, fries, and more.

3. Blackbird Coffee

This authentic coffee shop is one of the best places to study, drink coffee, and hang out with friends. Just a short walk from campus, Blackbird is a great place to go between classes. Plus, it always smells delicious because they roast their own coffee beans in the shop; always fresh!

4. The Railroad Tracks

If you're feeling adventurous, walk down the railroad tracks by the dorms until you reach a bridge. Although it my look normal from above, if you crawl under the bridge you'll find amazing art and inspirational quotes. It's so fun to read the graffiti and it's a great place to take artsy pics.

5. Central State

Georgia State Lunatic Asylum, now known as Central State Mental Hospital, was once the largest Mental Hospital in the world. Today most of the campus is abandoned and there are over 25,000 people buried on the grounds. Central State is full of history and is very interesting to read about. If you're feeling frisky, you should drive around the abandoned insane asylum at night for a good spook.

6. The Old Governor's Mansion

At one point in time, Milledgeville, Georgia was the state capital. The Old Governor's Mansion, located on South Clarke Street, housed Georgia's governors from 1838-1868. The mansion was taken captive in 1864 by General Sherman during his March to the Sea. If you want to learn more about the interesting historical side of Milly, you should definitely tour the Old Governor's Mansion (plus, tours are free if you show them your bobcat card!)

7. The Chalk Mines

The chalk mines, previously known as the Kaolin mines, are located about 30 minutes outside of Milledgeville. Kaolin (aka "white gold") is one of Georgia's most important minerals. It is used to make rubber and plastic goods, paper, cosmetics, medicine, and much more. The chalk mines are a very popular place to explore and the perfect, blue water is absolutely breathtaking. p.s. beware of quicksand.

8. The Small

The "Small" is another name for the Millegdeville Mall. It's probably the smallest mall in the world actually. There isn't much to it, but it does have a T.J.Maxx so that's cool.

9. The Greenway

The Greenway is the best place to walk, ride bikes, kayak, and fish. Escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy the relaxing nature trails and the beauty of the Oconee River at the Greenway.

10. Sunset fields

Baldwin County Soccer Complex (aka Sunset Fields) is the best way to relax and unwind after a fun day in Milly. Pack a picnic and watch the gorgeous sunset with your friends as another beautiful day in Milly comes to an end.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
