I spend a lot of my time each summer trying to see as many movies as possible. I'm always very fortunate that many of the films interest me or are the genres I particularly enjoy watching. But I'm not opposed to just seeing a movie for the heck of it either.
Here are 10 must-see movies for summer 2017 in time-order:
1. "Wonder Woman" (June 2)
One of my personal favorites for the summer, Wonder Woman makes her solo movie debut on June 2nd. Gal Gadot is brilliant and I'm looking forward to seeing her kick patriarchy booty in this film.
2. "The Mummy" (June 9)
Starring Tom Cruise, the movie trailers for The Mummy personally freak me out. I'm not one for thrillers or Tom Cruise movies, but the film looks very well shot and anyone who has ever played Temple Run will probably really enjoy this movie.
3. "Transformers: The Last Knight" (June 21)
Cars, robots, adventure... what's not to love about Transformers? If you're a fan of this series, I'm sure you're really looking forward to this movie. Even as a casual viewer, it looks like an exciting film that will really deliver. I'd buy a popcorn and some sour patch kids and sit back in front of this movie.
4. "Baby Driver" (June 28)
Featuring Ansel Elgort and Kevin Spacey, this movie focuses on a personal soundtrack and working in crime, marrying both adventure and comedy. I don't know if I'd recommend Baby Driver for a first date, but I would definitely recommend it as one of the best looking movies of the summer.
5. "Despicable Me 3" (June 30)
New characters, new plotlines, but most importantly, the same ol' minions. What's not to love about Despicable Me?
6. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (July 7)
The newest Marvel movie to come out (and hopefully the best Spider-Man movie to debut in years... sorry, Andrew Garfield), Spider-Man: Homecoming will follow Peter Parker as he juggles high school and working as a part-time member of the Avengers. It will surely be one of the biggest movies of the summer.
7. "War for the Planet of the Apes" (July 14)
Although there have been many Planet of the Apes movies to come out in the past few years, this movie feels very much like the result of years and years of conflict building up between humans and the apes. If these movies are your thing, you'll love this film.
8. "Dunkirk" (July 21)
A Christopher Nolan film, Dunkirk describes the surrounding of Allied troops by Germany on the beaches of Dunkirk in May of 1940. I don't typically watch war movies, but I'm very interested in the history this movie illustrates, not to mention that Christopher Nolan is an incredible director.
9. "The Dark Tower" (August 4)
Two incredible actors, Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey, star in The Dark Tower, a sci-fi movie about an intergalactic war between good and evil, with the dark tower being the point between worlds. I am incredibly interested in this movie.
10. "The Hitman's Bodyguard" (August 18)
The Hitman's Bodyguard is all about the fun times that ensue when the top bodyguard in the world is called to protect his mortal enemy -- the world's top hitman. With Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson, it's bound to be a hit.
